Isolation (2005)
Bloody good film (no pun intended!)
I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to horrors. (ok, i'm a MAJOR wimp.) I sat in bed with my teddy(!) watching this last night. The effects were fantastic, if a bit gruesome. The fact that it was filmed in winter added to the atmosphere. I think if it had been filmed during a warmer time in the year, the film just wouldn't of worked. I told my hubby about it. I don't think he would rate it has high as I have as he likes horror movies the scarier the better. What I didn't understand was why was there all that stagnant water? There are a few plot holes, but nothing too major.
Great film.
Life on Mars: Episode #2.1 (2007)
What an opener!.....
I love this show. I applaud the writers for a job well done. If you haven't seen this series yet WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??? It is fantastic. Please make time to see this, you won't regret it. There are only a few programmes that my husband and I watch together and this is one of them.
There is a character that is promoted (at last) due to their hard work. (Well they need it if they have to put up with Gene!) Sam is, at last, getting an edge. He isn't such a softy this time round.
At the risk of sounding like a bore.... Please please see this show before it's too late. (I've heard that this series is the last.)
The Iron Giant (1999)
Wow!!
What an amazing film. I had no idea what a wonderful film this is. I mean, I'm in my mid 30's and a mum of 3. I absolutely love this film. My kids really enjoy it but I don't think they really appreciate the message that it is trying to put across. (well, my 4 year old anyway) My 7 year old just likes it for the bang factor. (the explosions and stuff!)
I was a bit disappointed though that the giant didn't have more to say. It would of been nice to know were he came from and why. I had no idea at all that the voice of the giant is Vin Diesel! I would never of thought that he would do anything like this. Just goes to show how many actors are typecast.
I got quite tearful at the end, especially when the giant says his last line about being Superman. I mean this is ludicrous! A grown woman crying over what is basically a cartoon!!!
Maybe a sequel to this film could happen?
If you haven't seen it yet, please make an effort to do so.
Cinderella II: Dreams Come True (2002)
Only for kids
If you are under the age of 6 or 7, then you're going to really enjoy this movie. My youngest daughter is glued to the TV when she watches it. As an adult, I can't stand it!! I'm all up for sequels....when they have a decent storyline. But this is nowhere near up to standard. Please forgive me for slating what is after all a kid's film, but when you have to sit through it nearly every day when your kids who love it so much, you'll understand why. My daughter would watch this film over and over again on the same day if we let her.
I've given this film 4 out of 10 purely for the fact that it keeps my youngest entertained.
Monk: Mr. Monk and the Kid (2005)
Pass the tissues
This episode is one of the best. The little boy is so sweet. My sister has seen this episode before, but it's the first time for me. Who'd of thought the Monk could let himself go?! This eppy had me in tears. I'm just glad my hubby wasn't in the room!!
I think the interaction between Tony Shalhoub and the little boy was really sweet. You have to see the way Monk is when he's reading to the boy. It melts your heart!
I thought it was quite funny when the boy would get upset over his trouser leg not being level!
I have to tape this eppy for my daughter as she too loves 'the Monk'.
I did miss Stottlemeyer in this one. The way Monk winds him up with all his habits, they just crack me up.
I'm quite pee'd off that this eppy is the last in this series. I hope the BBC bring it back really soon.
Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006)
I'm not sure about this film.
I took my 3 year old to see this film as she absolutely loves the original. There were a few titters from her, but most of the verbal and physical jokes were way over her head. My other 2 kids might enjoy it a bit more than myself or my daughter as they are a bit older and would get the jokes.
I did laugh a few times myself, but I felt uneasy about the whole concept. What I found annoying was that most of Scrat's scenes had been shown in the trailers.
Sid is still my favourite character, but I didn't think Queen Latifah (though a good actress) was the best person to play Manny's love interest.
The whole film felt rushed. I got the feeling that this film was made because it was 'expected' of the producers etc, bearing in mind how the original had ended. This film is on par with a non-fat yoghurt - all flavour and no substance.
4.5/10
