Katt Williams: American Hustle (2007)
BRILLIANT!
Saw this my last night in New Orleans on solo trip. Flight was at 5am this came on at 10.. ended up watching it 2x that night backtoback and nearly missed my flight. Dunno what reviewer Jezebeel1018 watched but this was like first watch of "Live On The Sunset Strip" OR "Live in Long Beach" non-stop belly laugh! From opening EVERYDAY I'M HUSTLIN, to Shaq, to Crocodile Hunter, Celebrity Friends, to China, etc etc. Katt was at top of his game here and delivers on point! He also has that unique blend of stand up ability with a physicality rarely seen these days. From running to and fro, to voice inflections to no emotion stares ALL help boost this performance to another level . Looking forward to his live Netflixevent next month.
Gomorrah (2014)
..if derivative mafia shows PULLED YOU OUT..
Gommora will PULL YOU BACK IN! For starters Gommora (Gommorah/Gomora depends where you watch it) has little to nothing to do with the film of sam title aside from subject matter and locations that is.. and maybe an actor or three. Honestly I was obsessed with this show few years back and tho' STILL somewhat difficult to find (thought for sure Ntfx, Hu, Prm would have by now) it was near impossible to find full episodes WITH subtitles on piratewebsites circa that technologically backwards year of 2020! ..ahem..but i digress. Despite naysayers the acting is phenomenal..an cinematography?? Mwwwa! Forgetaboutit! ...
Don't worry no spoilers but we'll just pretend THAT finale never happened.
ONLY critique is maybe between some of the blood spraying, torturous pleads for mercy, manical laughter during severd limb taking it wouldnt've hurt to inject SOME humor now and then. Couldn't Genni have stopped playin with his ring ONCE and flash those pearly whites or laugh at Gincarlojusepivalentino's joke??
PS- MUSIC at end of every episode ..that: "DUN... DUN... DUN.."
(you'll know what I mean) .. on a personal note hits me like.. well like the fate of all cinematic degenerate gamblers who don't $ their debts.. an ICE PICK TO THE HEART.. I used to watch Gommorah with my Boxer THOR snorin next to me and now that he's gone I can't watch the show cuz on account of "DUN DUN DUN" reminds me of him .. so .. my suggestion is don't watch it while your dog's next to ya.
Family Blood (2018)
IN A WORD...
... Almost. It was almost ...a decent vampire film...but "almost" "isn't". Others have already mentioned the choppy editing and pacing so I won't ...(or did I?).
GOOD: Acting (save for daughter) & Cinematography.
MISSED OPPORTUNITYS: Woulda been nice to know a lil something about Christopher as he was the most interesting character in the film. When he mentioned "Gargoyles" I was hoping he'd say something about a church in a city far in the past he lived in...but nope. Such a scene wouldn't need to be detailed but just little things like that make a character more interesting.
That ending...huh? I mean I get what happened but...meh...
The Neighborhood (2018)
Did? Who? What?Why?
DID the CBS 'VP of Whatever' who Greenlight this show lose a bet?
WHO at CBS was given "Old Yeller Duty" and tasked with takin said 'VP of Whatever' out behind the shed to put him outta OUR misery??
WHAT current shelter & soup kitchen do the family of 'VP of Whatever' currently reside so that I may donate my time to ANOTHER shelter??
Earth has broadcast TV radio waves into interstellar space at the speed of light for around 100 years and tho' NOT the pinnacle of human achievement, falling slightly short of The Bard at his most prolific, I feel secure should an intelligent alien race pick up those signals while sitting on their (uncomfortable) sofas and watch episodes of Hawaii 5-0, Matlock, The Honeymooners, Spencer For Hire, Alice, Falcon's Crest, Matt Houston, ANY of the terrible Twilight Zone (post original) reboots, Alf, Simon & Simon and even (shudder) Dharma & Greg ..will know they are FICTIONAL and not a true depiction of our race. HOWEVER, if through some infinitesimal chance a Neighborhood "wave" hits GRONGORT'S Antenna or ___(Enter Extraterrestrial Name Here) ...
I fear our extinction may be at hand.
Westworld (2016)
Excessively Emotional As Interstellar
Don't get me wrong sentimentality or "depth of feeling" to quote Ebeneezer, is a pivotal component to a story's structure and I'd wager to its success for if it lacks it the audience can't connect to the characters should they become in peril; Hell even JAWS had it's "Ahhh" moments with Roy Schneider an family between Great White Human Snacks! However should a particular genre become overly saturated with it, in particularly Horror, Action & Sci-Fi, it will in fact have the SAME effect upon the audience
they'll cease to care about those characters that are a diversion from the action, even when they are in danger! Which scenes do we enjoy more?..those with Ed Harris OR Evan Rachel Wood talking about her childhood, every episode, multiple time and the "analysis" of the words she chose? Is this Westworld or a modern stylized Dr. Phil? I can appreciate Jonathan Nolan's examination of the Human perception of what it means to be in fact "human" and perhaps even the underlying message of A.I.'s (Artificial Intelligence) potential dangers but these things could have been expressed without every third scene being a weeping Mother's lament! The original film had a kick-ass near SILENT Precursor-Terminator Robot (Host) played by (uhm
is there any other word but AWESOME to describe him?) Yule Brenner who goes on a killing spree in Westworld after ALL the Robots (Hosts) go haywire around the park! Not to mention we also saw other Worlds the park inhabited: Ancient Rome, King Arthur, etc. and the aftermath of the Robots (Hosts) killing humans there. The message was clear even THEN back in the early 70's of the danger of technology advancing faster than humans may be able to cope and had the original film added a love scenario between Human and Robot..(probably ending badly as this WAS a 70's Sci-Fi film, tho' Logan's Run ended happily)been sprinkled in than the "what it means to be human" message would ALSO have been evident. Whew! Admittedly exaggerated but I feel Nolan made the same, what's the correct word not "error" per say but direction story wise as he did with Interstellar when he and his Brother wrote it. That film dwelled FAR too long on the relationship between McCaughey and his Daughter as every time it left the "Space Stuff" and went back to the "crying, miss you stuff" (again I exaggerate but only a lil) the audience silently groaned..(and Quantum Physics aside, wtf was up with that whole Black Hole Library thing Matthew was floating in??) But I digress, were only 4 Episodes in and ill watch the rest of the season if for any reason I'd watch Ed Harris do a 3 hour infomercial on 'Shower Curtain Rings'.
