Beautiful animation and music, but kinda sloppy story
28 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
First thing that amazed me about this flick is animation. I never seen such an artfully drawn cartoon for years. It's an eye-candy that's rarely seen anywhere. The second was the soundtrack — again, I never heard such a good soundtrack for a long time. But the story… Well, it's not even closely comparable to original movie. It seemed like an adaptation of 1986 "Kin-dza-dza" for mentally disabled people. That doesn't even count as a remake, because lots of significant moments are wiped out in this "version". No planet Alpha, which is sort of cornerstone in original story, much less of social aspects reviewed, and a stupid role change between main characters. This can't be called good. I give seven stars only for art, which is truly outstanding, but the plot isn't worth more than three. If it was an independently produced film, it could be nice, but exploiting a masterpiece of Soviet era just won't work. And I couldn't find decent English subtitles for this movie to share it with my non-Russian speaking friends, so I see this as a disadvantage also — in modern days cinema should be produced with English subs. Period.

As much amazing as it is awful

Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw it, I was at work, and laughed out loud right at the office. I couldn't help it, and was looked at as a weirdo, but it was worth it. Combination of style and plot is killer. You may never understand this, but it's a masterpiece. It's a triumph of absurd, true madness in flesh. It exploits aesthetics of abominable, so it's definitely not suitable for anybody, but if you are a prepared person, you must see that. Cruel jokes, violence, lots of swearing and outstanding, shockingly far out of scale dumbness of main character make it. All sins of modern society — they are there, right on the surface, and they hit you very hard, just like this monstrous idiot hits the dude with a stick in his mouth. And, in fact, I loved the style — a cartoon like this should be drawn that ugly to fulfill impression. If you aren't ready to dive into dirt we're producing each day and see yourself in one of the characters, that's not for you. Otherwise I recommend to watch this nonsense. You won't be left indifferent.

TripTank (2014–2016)

Best comedy cartoon ever
28 January 2017
Well, this is far ahead of Robot Chicken at least, which seemed way too intelligent and boring after watching a couple of episodes of TripTank. Most of sketches are insanely fun, variety of animation styles used is freaking astonishing. I don't see any reason people don't like it besides they just can't get how amazingly it is done. Honestly, I never seen anything like that before. Every episode makes me wonder how on Earth can creators have fantasy like this and maintain a kind of story line (well, actually a lot of) through all the flick at the same time. This show is on top of favorites list among my closest friends, and it's for a reason. I achieve that level of creativity only on massive dosages of acid. Unbelievable. The humour can be considered rude and inappropriate, but it's the way it's been designed, so don't ever complain if you found this show being "too much" for you. If you don't like black comedy, you should avoid watching it by any means, otherwise you must see that flow of twisted fantasy you'll never find elsewhere. If you consider those series stupid and for "stoned schoolboys", then you are probably the one or just didn't get the idea. This show is not for all, and obviously not for people with lower IQ, despite you can think exactly of opposite.
