The Hip Hop Nutcracker (2022)
Fresh and new, needed this!
I was a little hesitant to tread on sacred ground by watching this. I have seen several dozen live productions, and I own both the Nureyev and Baryshnikov versions on DVD. I adore this ballet.
So glad I went ahead and tried it. It was a glorious experience when I realized how well the music had been blended: how beautiful the colors and costumes....and that I actually recognized a number of wonderful dancers from "So You Think You Can Dance". Comfort, Fic-shun and Twitch were among my favorites! And suddenly...there was Baryshnikov smiling and enjoying the production.
I found it compelling and really well done. I loved every minute of this late night (for me) adventure and plan to watch it again. Delicious! I am glad that at my age , 79, I can still enjoy new and different things and events.
The Watcher (2022)
Too cool for school.
Conceptually interesting. Excellent cast and some great acting. Spooky when it needs to be, but spookiest elements are the dreadful personalities that inhabit the neighborhood. Disgusting people, nothing supernatural.
Not everyone will identify with the obsession for a house ...most of us will never live in a home like that, nor would we want to. Think utility bills and upkeep!
Its an enjoyable watch, but in my opinion suffers from overwriting. Trying too hard to be cool and twisty, like hippies who bought their cool clothes from Macy's. Does not allow the viewer to savor the twist before another comes along and tries to be more surprising. That repititious plot device becomes
boring, at least to me it does. Otherwise, nice show for this time of year(Halloween).
The Resident (2018)
Heartbreaking
Hate that two of the best characters, Nic and Mina, are gone. Worked in the medical field forty-five years and never saw so many tragedies hit a small group of providers. One watches these kind of medical shows to appreciate how the main characters develop and increasingly solve health crises...but why do these crises have to occur within the group of providers? Not happy with the direction this show is taking.
Mrs Wilson (2018)
Mezmerizing
Nicely woven tale that slowly draws the viewer in then smacks you in the face. Immpecable acting by all involved. Its made even more intriguing knowing that it is a true story, being portrayed by the main character's descendant. Kudos!
