We Found Something (2022)
Found Footage Flop
It's a rare occurrence for me to be left absolutely speechless after watching a found footage horror movie. But this one takes the cake.
The creepy/too close relationship between brother and sister made it almost too awkward to watch. But that aside, the creature was absolutely horrendous. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I haven't seen special effects this bad in a long time. And I'm not expecting much from a found footage film. But this was just out right cringe.
The story line I actually liked. Even the actors were okay, albeit no Oscars, but still watchable. But that creature, it just obliterates any sliver of hope this movie had. I would stay far away. Don't waste your time.
Brew House (2016)
"Where's Billie?"
Who cares where Billie is. It sounds like she sucked on a million helium balloons before talking to the camera.
I have never had an issue with finishing a found footage film due to a terrible character, but Brew House came close. Billie's death couldn't have come sooner! The film immediately became more watchable with her annoying voice not in it. I'm not expecting Oscar winning performances from these films but watchable would help.
There were some creepy moments but with such a poor script/acting, it was difficult to get to the creepy moments. I guess watch at your own risk, but don't expect found footage greatness.
The Wendigo (2022)
Waited so long for nothing
Where to start...I waited forever for this found footage wendigo film only to be so disappointed with the outcome. It was only a little over an hour and I almost couldn't make it to the end. This is NOT horror and is definitely NOT a creature feature. It's just bad acting, bad effects, and an even worse story line. The main subject, Logan, is absolutely terrible. I couldn't root more for his demise. If you're looking for a strong found footage horror film and a good wendigo storyline this is NOT the found footage film for you. I usually don't expect much from FF movies but this was a let down.
Cold Ground (2017)
Unexpected Found Footage Gem
It's rarity for me to review a movie but I thought this deserved some credit where credit's due. I was very pleasantly surprised. It has a Blair Witch feel to it but with less long stretches of B roll. It was nice not to suffer through an hour and twenty minutes of boring footage that drags on forever until the last ten minutes, where they usually throw in every bit of cringe action/horror they can. The story was great. The acting was actually quite good. I found myself actually rooting for the characters.
This is definitely worth a watch, especially if you're a die hard found footage fan. It won't disappoint.
Wolf House (2016)
Actually Watchable
I'm a sucker for found footage horror. This movie wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either. It isn't every day when a horror movie references the sweet Harry and the Hendersons.
Embedded (2012)
Quite A Gem
I went into this movie with no prior knowledge of it, the story or actors. I was pleasantly surprised at how great the story was and even the camera work. I'm a big found footage horror fan and this one did not disappoint. The creature effects were actually quite good, not really any CGI, just good old fashioned actors in costume. If you're a fan of found footage definitely check this one out.
The Houses October Built 2 (2017)
For a sequel, not bad.
I'm normally skeptical about sequels, but this one pleasantly surprised me. It's a rarity to like the sequel a bit more then the original, but I think The Houses October Built 2 gives the original a run for its money. I enjoyed that the entire cast returned. The characters are pretty easy to like. The story was interesting as well. I thought it was a well written sequel and quite a gem.
