Paradise PD (2018)
The dog, its all about the dog.
If you have no sense of humour or are a bit on the stale side of humour then this show is not for you. Otherwise, I have always loved police dogs, but after this show, I love em. Chill back, relax, watch, laugh....ignore the few annoying scenes (mainly with songs).
Kin (2018)
Do I want to see Kin 2? Do critics like it - no, but lets be honest, what do they like....
Simple answer is yes. Overall an enjoyable Sci-Fy film which sets a decent pilot for follow on films. I personally am not sure why this has scored so low. I am not one to use film critic terminology; I often disagree with them, I don't think they enjoy any movies these days as they just want to drag them down and prove they are better (why are they not directing films then?). Simple questions should review a film for the masses. Would i recommend it? Yes. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Would I watch a "Kin 2". Most definitely. You have to keep with it in places, but i was never bored. Score 8/10.
The Predator (2018)
Easily the worst film involving a Predator
Writing - appalling, screenplay - appalling, acting - appalling, direction - appalling I could go on all day......to summarise - you guest it, appalling.
Like Father (2018)
Enjoyable - but I think alot of people missed a big part.
Ok, so the movie itself is kinda slow, but I thought it was a good pass time experience - as in it passed the time. Didn't want to switch it off at any point, but, could of been better.
One thing which people, from other reviews, appear (IMHO) to have missed is the whole Harry and Gabe relationship. I'll give you a clue, who is at the house in the final scene? Why them? This is not a spoiler unless you have watched the film. Based on that, look back at the film and the whole leaving dad thing. Makes a bit more sense? I think so.
Good film, bit strectched in places. Enjoyable, but no Oscars.
Watch at leisure, not a pay at cinema film, another Netflix fill your night up.
Bodyguard (2018)
It's one of the best BBC shows to date.
So, most people use common sense here and see it as a James Bond or Mission Impossible type watch. Others, well they need to lighten up and realise it is a TV show. The story line after two episodes has had me glued to the screen. I can not wait for the next episode - that is the measure of a TV series, not "realism", hell, I liked Braveheart, realistic, no, enjoyable - yes. Highly recommended.
The Beyond (2017)
Give it a chance and just enjoy the alternate thought.
I must admit, 4.8 seems a low review for this film. A solid 7 is my thought. Others have mentioned that the script is a bit weak - personally, I didn't notice as I was watching the film. By this, I mean, I was watching the story. I enjoyed this different take on the traditional Sci-fy. It was enjoyable to be on the other side of Star Trek. Watch to find out.
The Hurricane Heist (2018)
Action - Yes, storyline - Yes. Believable - BIG NO
Well, I will be very quick. As the title suggests, the storyline and action is good. But my god, how bad is the actual "believe things could happen". With the F&F series the action is generally planned by the crew etc, even then it's a stretch, but an enjoyable one. This film just sucks, "this happens at this time to make this happen then that happen, by chance that happens - all without a plan". All reallly really bad. I watched to the end but was cringing throughout (although half watched whilst typing this as I got that bored). The Mall with the tidal wave was just a summary of pointless stunts. Good stunts. Storyline could have been believeable with the whole heist thing. How it is worked and the way it is written, bad - distracts from the action as you roll your eyes.
Megan Leavey (2017)
I will keep this simple...
As promised, I will keep this simple. If you are a dog lover, don't mind shedding a tear (I'm a 38 year old male former enforcement officer, it got me) you will enjoy this movie. Simples.
It has been broken into three parts, first is a build up of character for Leavey, second is the relationship between Leavey and Rex in Iraq, third is the "fight". Some people are saying the third part was a bit of a let down, but, personally, i was happy with it. I did not realise I had been watching the film for its run time thinking it still must have a while to go at the credits. Always a good sign.
Dunkirk (2017)
I think everyone giving this a good review is a sheep....
Bad. Saving Private Ryan, filmed 20 years ago, blows this out of the water. Someone said there is no character development to make this about all men and women on the beach/boats - what all 100 of them or so? At no point was there an exploration as to the size of the disaster, at no point do you feel any connection to any of the men or women. Of course every history buff like me will watch the film.
Is it the next SPR - no,no,no. Will you want to watch it again. No chance. Buy it on blue, no. Watch on Netflix, I'm sure there will be something better when the time comes, like, well, anything you haven't already seen.
I was actually bored of the stale "dramatic" long scene shots of actors either looking to the sky or looking to the ground. Its a very boring film in my opinion, but then I am a fan of SPR, BOB, The PAcific, Battle of Britain, Battle of the Buldge - you know, good films/series.
The Circle (2017)
Enjoyable film, despite the FB/Podcast/Twitter Gen disliking it
I have to consider myself as past it. I am only 37 though. Even though I still play Xbox and PC games, mainly Battlefield, Star Wars Battlefront and World of Tanks. But, I am past it. Old. This is purely because I am on FB (Facebook - for us oldies), but I'm not interested in any of the others. I have accounts on Twitter, sure, do I check it? No.
This film, for me, without being a "critic", is enjoyable. It's a warning of the future of technology and nothing more. It's story is good and enjoyable, it passes the time nicely. It has good performances from all involved and is directed well.
I am one of those who hate film critics, because they take the enjoyment out of the film based on cynicle comments or one scene. This film delivers an enjoyable experience for a Saturday night date night with the Mrs without being bored. It should do better than critics reviews. Critics, it appears to me, do not have Saturday nights at home with a bottle, with their other half, wanting to chat and enjoy a film together.
I recommend this film for a good solid date night film where you do not sit in silence throughout the film. ON that basis, its an 8/10 for me.
