The Wilds (2020)
Amazingly accurate representation of teenage girls
Don't watch this for the plot - it's not the show's strong point. Watch it for the relationships between the girls and the spectacular acting. Watch it for the incredibly accurate representation of the struggles that teenage girls go through. This is Mia Healey's first film and I think she's got a really interesting career ahead of her. All the actors were breathtakingly good.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Absolutely amazing
I don't even play chess and I was completely riveted. I hadn't intended to watch it at all but I accidentally saw the first few minutes of the first episode and I was hooked. It grabs hold tight and fast and never let's go.
The Comeback (2005)
Lisa Kudrow is just so damned good
The entire cast is amazing, but this is Lisa's show for every minute of every episode and I swear to God it will break your heart that there were only two seasons.
Us (2019)
I freaking loved this movie!
I don't care about any plot point issues. This movie is brilliantly acted and scary as hell.
The OA (2016)
Well, part one is wonderful, anyway
The OA really gets to you when it focuses on the relationships between the central and peripheral characters. It gets very lost when it brings in a humongous talking extraterrestrial octopus and starts focusing on esoterica like a puzzle house that appears to eat people (or something; haven't quite figured out that part). Part one is a song that sings to all of us; part two seems to be a song that sings to those of us who are super duper stoned.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Lots of logical fallacies here but...
Damn, this is a great movie! Wonderful acting by absolutely everyone, excellently gruesome and scary monsters, lots of tension. Just stay in the moment and ignore all the plot issues (and there are lots; they really didn't pay close attention to detail in some ways) and enjoy the movie for its strengths: people and monsters.
