Nobody (2021)
Great Revenge Movie
I have to admit that I am a sucker for a good revenge movie, and this is one of the best. I can't imagine anyone other than Bob Odenkirk in this role. Him being the meek ordinary 'everyman' is what makes this work. There is enough backstory to explain why he has the John Wick skills, without overdoing it. Christopher Lloyd was a treat. The fight scenes were well-choreographed, and had some original moments, which must be hard to come up with after seeing a million fight scenes. I would love to see a Nobody 2. Some of the action scenes re cartoonish and unbelievable but always entertaining, and that's the reason we watch movies.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Only watch if you are a Sopranos fan
I never watched the Sopranos so I'm sure a lot was lost on me. Really good acting here, and great 60's music. Not a very interesting story and no characters were likeable. If this was a prequel to a show I like such as Breaking Bad or Ozark I would probably feel differently but as a stand-alone movie this was hard to watch. Even Vera Farmiga, who I love as an actress plays an unlikeable character. They did a good job of getting props, cars and scenery from the period, probably cost a fortune, but it needed more of an interesting plot. The best I can say is that the reasons (and perps) behind the murders were made clear which was refreshing.
Entrevías (2021)
Interesting, compelling, relevant.
I love this show. There is enough character development that you would care about what happens to them. I don't understand the reviews about Irene, I found her to be believable and a good actress. Tirso and Ezekiel are a great combination of alpha male leads. I was really happy to hear there will be a season three and four. This show reminds me of a poor man's Breaking Bad, my favorite show of all time. I was extremely impressed how they matched the English voice over to the actors Spanish speaking lines. That could not have been an easy job. I like the way that all of the characters are a combination of good and bad qualities, just like real life. Except for Sandro who is purely bad.
Happily Never After (2022)
Good Movie
Good movie, if you like the LMN format which I do. Sound was mixed to make Faith muffled, maybe trying for sultry but I could not understand her. Thought at one point she had a foreign accent or speech defect. At the end she was clear. I'm gonna say a sound mixing problem. But I'm old and don't hear that well.
Fatale (2020)
Good Thriller
I don't do a lot of reviews, and am not a movie buff, but this was very entertaining with twists but not too many to follow. Lots of really good camera angles and scenery, but the plot is the main thing. Spoiler: the first twist is that the girl Derrick has the one night stand with is the detective on the case when there is a break in and assault. Highly unlikely but if you get past that the rest of the movie is great. Hillary plays a great and convincing psycho. Wants custody of her daughter which adequately explains her psycho-ness. It was better than the average Lifetime movie and I've seen them all.
