1st review ever. That's how dissapointed I am. I've loved starwars my whole life. But now it's dead. I'll just keep it short.
Rey has not yet had to overcome anything. She used a mind trick successfully on 1st try. Beat Kylo after picking up a lightsaber for the first time ever. Even defeated Luke in combat. She's never lost and she most likely never will because she's the female lead. It's sad she's got emotions and acting but it's like she's superman and everyone else a fish in a barrel.
Politics and opinion. You can not deny the movie had serious political views shoved down your throat. Female admiral Holdo who Poe had issues with "bc shes a strong woman in charge" No. It's because their entire fleet was decimated and they were running out of fuel and she didn't tell anyone anything. They wrote this as an example of sexism in the workplace. males undermining females. It was dumb.
The entire Canto Bight scene was garbage but the gist of it it: evil old white people are the 1%ers. Oh and they beat animals and horses. Watch it again and find any humanoid in the casino that wasn't white. The writers themselves claimed on twitter that the first order were neo nazis. Why? Why can't they just be bad guys? Why does starwars have to divide?
Rose: I could talk about this newly enhanced jarjar for days. This new character took up most of the movie and was unbearable for every second. Bottom line is she's Asian. And China has a very large movie industry and audience that will boycott if they aren't represented or if they are shown as the villain. This is why we got Rose. That and she's fat, unattractive, and liberal. It's the holy grail for this P.C. generation.
Luke: they not only killed my childhood hero. They ruined everything he was and could've been. This was the worst part of the film. I truly feel for Mark.
Writing: cheesy lines. Terrible plot. Running out of gas??? Really? Carrie died so we have a heart felt explosion kill her..and she's flying! And who can forget: we don't win wars by killing what we hate, but by saving what we love. I hated Rose so much.
The Force Awakens set this episode up perfectly. And Johnson wiped his ass with it. So bad it seems deliberate! All he had to do was have Luke actually train Rey. Have Snoke finish training with Kylo. Give some backstory to both Luke and Snoke. Then have a big climatic battle with light vs dark. Carrie is dead so they should have killed Leia. And literally anything else besides low gas and casino would have worked for the resistance. Perfect example: resistance fleeing daqar. The order board and capture Leia on Snokes orders. Why? So they can bring her on his ship so he can tell Kylo to finish his training, by killing her. Poe and Finn (Rose now doesn't exist) along with fighters must sneak onto Snokes flagship to rescue Leia. The rest of the resistance flees to another hidden base. Rey before finishing her training senses trouble(just like Luke on bespin) and cuts training short to save her friends. This would be 10X better than what Johnson did.
