Date Movie (2006)
totally worth your money
well, i didn't spent money on it cause I downloaded it BUT if u plan on paying for it then I'd say that it's totally worth it.
I'm disappointed at the rating it has. It should be so so so much higher, Alyson Hannigan is so funny!! after watching her in Buffy The Vampire Slayer I wasn't sure she could be that funny (i mean she was funny in Buffy... but a different type of funny) but hey!! she did it!!
it's an hilarious movie that you should definitely watch!!!! Yes, as in any other movie, this movie has bad scenes, the type of scenes that you wonder why did they have to do that, but it's just a few and short.
The movie is of the type of scary movie. It makes fun of other movies and it's all sarcastic and neat. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.
Mariana de la noche (2003)
z
I watched it cause that was the only Latin American soap opera at the moment being transmitted in north America. It wasn't that good by Mexican standards but when you're desperate to watch something you'll watch about anything.
So here's how it goes, this beautiful and good girl (Mariana) has a very evil family (exclude her mother which is a nice woman) and falls in love at first sight with his dad (Atilio)'s archenemy (Ignacio) without of course, knowing he's her family enemy (he doesn't know either). Ignacio went to this little town where they live looking for revenge but he doesn't actually know who his enemy is....
It has very twisted parts, and it's kinda nice... ah let's add that Mariana's cousin (Marcia) is in love with Ignacio too and she's as evil as Atilio... so watch out.
María la del barrio (1995)
don't you just love Thalia!
Totally amazing soap opera. I'm so nostalgic, they don't do this kind of soap operas anymore. Great actors, Thalia, Fernando Colunga, Itati and Ludwika, I mean.. what's not to love about this soap opera? Maria is taken from basically the trash can and was transform to a respectful lady by an old wealthy man (Don Fernando De la Vega). His family doesn't really like the idea and make her life a total hell. His son (Luis Fernando) starts playing with her but then he fells in love with Maria. Too late cause she gave away his son and becomes crazy. After she's fully recover she wonders around looking for his lost son but it was quite an odyssey (not to mention that her daughter Tita, thought Maria was having an affair with this guy she was looking for....... her son).
Ah of course don't forget Soraya Montenegro the antagonist who was in love with Fernando and tried to kill Maria so she could stay with Fernando and his fortune.
Volver a empezar (1994)
plot
OK i can't quite agree with "arturo_smallcharm" since I liked Maria Mercedes a lot but I do agree "Amigas y Rivales" was a great production!, maybe if I see one of those old soap operas now I won't like them but at the time they were fabulous.
Now to the plot. Reni/Renata (Yuri) was a successful singer and everybody loved her but her sister. Sandy/Sandra her sister was jealous and evil and with Reni's husband (Santiago who was in it for the money although he was rich already) planed to kill her during a performance, but Reni doesn't die... she ends up in a wheel chair and can't dance again.
At the end 3 guys end up in love with her and Santiago try to kill them all (may I add that he used his piano's string to strangle his victims?) and of course... kill Reni since she she made a fully recovery and could sing/dance again.
Eternamente Manuela (1995)
Who wouldn't fall in love with Manuela
Here we have a girl (Manuela) from a small town who has a boyfriend (Mateo) and live very happy in their small world.
One day Manuela meets Francisco Grijalba a very wealthy guy who always gets was he wants and lives in the big city. As expected, Manuela fell in love with Francisco and leaves the small town and marry him but he turns out to be a psycho, violent, jealous man and doesn't allow Manuela to leave the house.
Mateo her old boyfriend leaves for the big city with his best friend not only to look for Manuela but looking to get famous as a musician. Cause he pose a danger to Francisco he tries to get Mateo killed and tries his best to stop him from being famous.
Guajira (1996)
the problem? lack of change
I don't quite agree with Riman's review specially when he says "Fernando Gaitán became one of the most respected "Novela(Soap Opera)" writers, of Colombia. But I really don't know why he changed so much in this new project." I'd say is the other way around. Yes he became very well respected after "Cafe" and he still is well respected BUT his mistake with Guajira was cause he DIDN'T CHANGE anything at all. Cafe was so well done and everybody felt in love with the couple "Gaviota y Sebastian" that he tried to replicate the story but replacing coffee with oil.
Apart from that I'd say the soap opera was OK. It's about a guy (Helmut) who has to move and live in Guajira (a place in the north of Colombia) cause the company he works for finds oil in that place so he's in charge of a project to get certain amount of oil but has to meet a dead line. The problem is that the community living there makes it hard and he gets into a lot of troubles to meet this dead line and he has to risk his life several times. That's the plot as I recall it.
El abuelo y yo (1992)
dimmed memory
OK since I'm obligated to write in English I'll have to do it although this review is worth a penny to non-Latin people.
I can't remember very well the drama of this soap opera. I was around the same age as Ludwika and Gael. The truth is that I only started watching it cause I liked Ludwika's performance in Carrusel as Maria Juaquina and because I liked Mexican television at that time... Well and in reality Mexico is one of the top soap opera makers.
I think the chemistry that existed between the two actors (Alejandra y Daniel) was magnificent, and the story very cute between the two children and his grandfather. I also remember that this program gave Ludwika an air of good girl after that roll she had in Carrusel. Reputation of good girl that didn't last too long since almost all rolls she's had have been of bad girl (yeah, add rich girl there also) or similar, but you have to admit that she does it very well!
Aurore (2005)
Best Quebecois movie of all times
I can't believe there's people that would rate "Les Boys" higher than "Aurore"... I mean, Les Boys is a classic Quebecois and yet is really bad.
To watch Aurore is really moving, I saw it on theater and everybody was crying, tissues where coming and going, and people had to stand up, run outside and cry it all out a couple of times. For all movies i've seen in theaters none of them has had such impact in the viewers as Aurore has. People wasn't afraid to show tears cause everybody was crying, boys and girls equally.
It has a very strong content and I think it was really good in all sense cause it made the viewers feel the real pain and captured the real message. Needless to say, at the end of the movie, the exit was pretty much like a funeral.. no talking, only tears and people started to leave quietly.
Spice World: The Game (1998)
Once again for the fans...
Well I bought it cuz i was a fan of the 5 girls but the game disappointed me a bit.. OK, to be honest.. A LOT. But then again i got to see one "hidden" video of the girls that came with the game.
There's not much to play on it, i finished it in 1 hour.. so i decided to look for the cheats of the game.. but the only thing worth to do was to make them giant on the screen. That's pretty much it.
As with the movie, I think the people in production thought because they were the spice girls we were gonna buy anything that had them on it (which was actually true!!) but now i think they should've made an effort to come up with something better although i don't regret having bought their merchandise.
Spice World (1997)
10 if u're a fan - 0 if u were the victim
As a ex - spice girl fan I have to say I loved it, I watch it a million times and i never got tired of it. After they split they became crap and i only follow Geri now.
But anyway, the movie... this is one of those movies that you either LOVE or HATE.. well that depends if you went to see it cuz u were a spice girl fan or you were force to see it cuz your girlfriend or boyfriend (which in this case he's gay and if he's gay it means you're a gal too) or you daughter or son (ohh surprise!! your son is gay!!!, lets face it.. all spice boys are gays and don't tell me that's not true cuz in the spice girl fan club they were 80% males.. and they were ALL gay or bi, some out of the closet and some of them not at all) or however wanted to see it made you go and you just had to cope with it.
all being said.. I'm outta here.
