Joker (2019)
Phoenix should get an Oscar for his role
The guy is strange to begin with and really brings the character of Arthur alive. The whole movie itself is 2h30 of a lot of things wrong with people and our society today. The fact that it's about the Joker character is purely anecdotal for marketing reasons. It could (should?) have been simply called "Arthur" and stand on its own immense merits.
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
Acting and script out of this World
The quality of the actors, their acting and the script are simply amazing and over the top. I which we had more movies like this.
By Dawn's Early Light (1990)
When things go wrong and into chaos
Good and realistic plot, with good actors and believable characters.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Far far away from George Lucas' masterpiece
It is claimed to have cost 200 millions, but that obviously did not go in the originality of the script (it's blatantly ripping off a lot from the original trilogy), the quality of the camera work or the actors.
The dialogue is now laden with moronic adolescent talk - e.g. 'who talks first, you talk first or I talk first?' - when Poe first encounters Kylo Ren, a sith lord.
Apparently, the empire has been taken over by white supremacists, and the galaxy will be saved by an Hispanic (Poe, who might be gay too), a black guy (Finn) and a women (Rey) - Hollywood's politically correct multicultural liberalism at its best.
In a nutshell, it has nothing of the magnificence that made it a monument of the modern film industry and a cultural icon. It's just another average SF Hollywood 'made for $$$' flick based on a popular franchise - e.g. terminator, alien, superman.
While George Lucas sold his soul for 4 billions, for sure he must have some misgivings - they have significantly degraded and stained his masterpiece.
What a shame.
