Louis C.K.: Chewed Up (2008)
One of the greatest hours of all time
This is a special I always come back to. It's technically perfect. The structure and pacing is on another level. Louis has a way of turning words that may sound hurtful into deconstructed jokes and takes away the power we've given them as a society. In this special, he makes excellent points about several controversial topics that some may never have given a chance if it wasn't so funny.
The bits will stand the test of time. The Cinnabon airport joke? Absolute classic. He is in his best form in this special.
The Gringo Papi (2022)
Bottom of the Barrel
Do you like racism or sexism? Low-brow frat humor? Someone who laughs at all of their own material? Then this is for you.
It took Brendan 4 years to write 25 minutes of material on "Mexicans are spicyyyy" and "marriage is hard". The material is so bad, his peers should be ashamed if they don't say anything to him about it.
The editing is the worst in a "special" I've ever seen. Multiple audiences shown, which means only parts of each joke landed each night. It never worked all the way through. Lighting is bad, he's wearing a black shirt on a black stage.
The Chris Gethard Show (2015)
Original and community based
I think Chris is excellent and breaking out with creative ideas involving his audience. Getting to know a little bit about hundreds of people who are watching all around the country, while doing hilarious and spontaneous acts in-between.
This show can have moments where it misses sometimes, but it takes chances and is like nothing on TV. I love Chris and I hope he takes more chances like this show did.
The Final Table (2018)
What is with the sound?!
This is one of the most annoying cooking shows I've ever watched. The food is fine, soundtrack isn't really too awful, but the fake audience is MADDENING. It's obviously a clap track and the people are going absolutely insane at everything that's said. No one can scream about food that much. It makes my ears bleed. Also, this host? What on Earth is he offering? Horrible voice, dull.
Brendan Schaub: You'd Be Surprised (2019)
Bribing Reviews
The CBD company that sponsors Brendan has sent out massive discounts on their website if you leave a positive review of this special. That is the most irredeemable action you can take as an artist putting out material. It didn't go as well as you wanted? Too bad. We all fail. Get back on that horse and work out a new hour.
