The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Mediocre
Tilda swindon spends the whole movie portraying the 2nd half of a lemon you left in the fridge 3 weeks ago, cold & pale yellow. Liam neeson makes a believable lion though.
The Great Escapists (2021)
Very contrived
Its just too scripted, doesn't feel organic at all. There's too much of an attempt to to sell the "we've been shipwrecked" premise. If you're very good at suspending reality then you'll love it, but otherwise know that it feels very scripted, more so than TopGear, or even Grand Tour, certainly more than Mythbusters.
Mercy (2016)
Hot garbage
Had me going at first, but at a certain point its just pitiful. Poor plot, literally the only way they managed to make it mysterious at all was but moving the order of events once. Bad script, bad plot, bad movie.
The Joe Rogan Experience: Larry Sharpe (2018)
The only JRE I couldn't finish
I listen to JRE most days, for most of the day, and generally enjoy the conversation regardless of its subject or content. Episode 1167 has a solid first hour, but I struggled to get through another half hour, and stopped with another hour left.
Baby Driver (2017)
Strangely depressing
My brother recommended this film to me a while ago and I finally got around to watching it. At first I thought the whole thing was just going to be 2 hour Subaru WRX commercial but it certainly was not, as the vehicle changes on each op and Baby's skills are exceptional in any 4-wheel vehicle. This is not a happy movie, there is a dark sense of humor and some moments of hope. This is a movie about kid getting in or being put in situations he shouldn't, and having to choose right and wrong for himself and those around him.
Survivorman (2004)
The Grandfather of Most Survival Shows
Survivorman is the grandfather to almost all other survival programs, and certainly all shown on Discovery or the Science channel. I watched this show as much as I could when I was a teenager, and even now years later it's still just as enjoyable. The thing that really separates this show from others is the true reality of it. There are no scripted interactions (Dual Survival), minimal or contextual setups with things left for the host (Man Vs Wild), and brilliant camera work for the entire program (Ed Stafford). Les Stroud gives an air of "if i can do it, so can you", compared to most other survival programs (the 3 I named above, for example) being hosted by former military men. Les Stroud is in his 40's, not the most physically fit person on earth, and only has survival techniques which anyone can do if properly instructed. Stroud has a safety net usually about 5 hour's walk away, which is helpful if he's mobile, but if he's attacked by a wild animal then it's game over. Compare that to Bear Grylls and his film crew of 2/3 people watching him do back-flips over waterfalls, ready to call for a helicopter if he gets hurt. Les Stroud does twice the work shown on camera because of his DIY film technique.
