SJP couldn't leave it alone
10 January 2022
I remember first hearing rumblings of a possible third movie a few years after that dumpster fire of a second movie came out. SJP was quoted as saying there was "still one story left to tell" and that a "beautiful" script had been developed. Of course, then came the 2-3 years they went back and forth and Kim (and Chris Noth) both said they had no interest. That should have been a sign, but apparently not enough for SJP. So now, we have a show that appears to have been based on bad SATC fan fiction. Yes, Carrie was the pinnacle of Parker's career but she can't go back and make it 1999 again. I always thought Carrie was just a version of Sarah herself which may explain why none of her other roles have had much sparkle to them. SATC was lightning in a bottle and captured the late 90s and early aughts so well. This reboot is nothing more than an insult to the characters they created and developed so well back then. SJP has stayed too long at the fair and ruined the legacy of the best work of her career.

The Conners: Throwing a Christian to a Bear (2020)

Awful episode
22 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This was one of the worst episodes yet. Sadly, I only got that Becky's boyfriend was supposed to be some awful person because of how justified the family felt being overtly rude to him. Darlene and Ben are trying to get funding for a PRINT magazine for mugshots? Is this 1993? How much crime does Lanford have?

The actress who plays Harris is simply awful and has no comic timing. Why is Michael Fishman even there? Lecy and Sara were far better actresses as teens than they are now. Pull the plug on this mess already.

Disappointing cast addition
14 January 2019
I have really enjoyed this show, particularly since it found its footing (around season 2). I'm a huge Allison Janney fan and I find her to be hilarious in this. I was never a big fan of Faris, but I admit she's grown on me with this role and I think she and Allison play really well off of each other.

They have always done a great job with casting - Mimi Kennedy, Octavia Spencer (who was hilarious here!), Jaimie Pressley, William Fichtner, and Kevin Pollak all fit in perfectly and have/had great chemistry with each other. Some really funny guest stars too, including Rosie O'Donnell whom I absolutely loathe otherwise.

I don't know whose idea it was to bring in the Tammy character but they should be fired immediately. Kristen Johnson plays this character the same way she's played every other character - loud, obnoxious, and completely unfunny. Her comedy has all the nuances of explosive diarrhea. The only time I've ever laughed at her was when she fell out the window on Sex and the City. The Tammy character doesn't add to the show nor does Johnson's brand of comedy fit in with the others.

I hope she's not permanent, I'd rather see the camera time given to any of the other actors on this show.

It just isn't working.
26 November 2018
I have watched all the episodes so far because I want to like this show. I loved the original and still enjoy the reruns so much. However, the new show is simply not good. I love Laurie Metcalf but she is horribly overplaying her character much like she did in the original runs last season. I don't know who told her this was the way to go, but it's awful. Goodman looks bored and seems like he's forcing his lines. Sara Gilbert seems to be trying to fill the void left by Roseanne and she's just not up to it. Darlene was an interesting teenage character but her flat, monotone one-liners just don't deliver. As for the rest of the cast, there's too many extra characters and very little character development. If I'm supposed to care about any of the grandkids, they need to be featured more than a couple minutes each week. What made the original so good was the relationships - Roseanne was at the center of that with Dan, Jackie, Becky and Darlene. I gave it a chance, I think I'll stick with the reruns and take a pass on this.
