I watched this due to a recommendation, as I'm not usually interested in prison drama. This is anything but. The characters, plot and script are amazing. As is the acting and direction. I binged the whole 5 seasons in a fortnight, as it's that good. It also has the most unique ending of any series. I'll say nothing more, other that watch this series!

By associating the series to Romero's great "Day of the Dead", I thought we might in for something special. It wasn't to be. Yet another run of the mill zombie series and not a particularly great one at that. One of the problems, is that it doesn't know what it wants to be. At first glance, it appears to be along the lines of "Ash vs Evil Dead", due to the gore and sarcastic comments from some of the cast. The difference is, Ash was funny, this isn't even remotely. Ash got away with the hammy acting as well, because it was based on the movies. Also though, it's not a real horror series either. I felt frustrated watching this, as some parts could have been good, but just weren't.
The story 's not bad, the acting for the most part is okay, but it's the editing that really ruins it. If you're going to tell a story, then tell it. Stop jumping around endlessly from one scene to another, thereby killing any suspense. It's irritating rather than tense.
I had high hopes given the use of Romero's name.
