Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar (2023)
Worthless in comparison....
This would have been a decent 6 episode HBO show, but as is.... it doesn't hold a candle to Requiem. There are no stand out songs or sequences. There is nothing in this that exceeds (or equals) the best episodes in the series... and absolutely doesn't compare to Requiem in pacing, songs, tone, or interest.
Name one stand out song? And compare that to Requiem..... songs like Giving It Back To You or the absolutely game changing Fata Sidus Oritur/One of Us Must Die.
Hell, even compare it to the Rehab episode or any of the Toki songs from the series...
A waste of $20. If you see this review is some distant future world where it is $5 or part of a streaming service, check it out.
Hot Bot (2016)
two outsider boys embark on robot sex comedy against the government
If Return of the Living Dead (1985) had been directed by Dan Aykroyd and the premise was a mash-up of One Crazy Summer (1986), Weird Science (1985), and Cherry 2000 (1987) in a world where Superbad (2007) had never been made, that film would be Hot Bot (2016), a surprisingly genuine sex-comedy without any sex.
Either the actors were given free-reign to live inside their characters and say whatever they felt at any time, or the dialog was brilliantly specific. Each actor (with the exception of Cynthia Kirchner -- I'd guess that she felt her character needed to be pretty stiff) seems to relish their scenes like their lines are delicious bunches of cherries and the juice is just dripping out of their red, red-stained mouths.
If you liked Teeth (2007) or Dope (2015) you will probably find this movie interesting. If you expect very little from it, you may find yourself excited by the experience.
