Dhoop Ki Deewar (2021)
Extremely below expectations.
Had very high hopes but very disappointed. First of all. The use of green screen was so lame and evident that it looked funny and ruined so many good scenes (esp the one with Vijay's funeral, was unable to focus on Ahad's acting bcz of very weirdly added people in background).
DKD tries it's best to show both nations as hypocrites who love each other's things but at the same time hate each other? How does that even work? It tries to merge two nations saying that they have same culture when in fact, they both got separated because one of the reasons was different cultural basis between the two.
Ahad is a brilliant actor but you do not get ANY Indian vibe from him. It looks like he is talking in Urdu with some Hindi words in between. Samia Mumtaz has nailed every role I have seen her in but idk what went wrong here that her dialogue delivery seemed too fake. She didn't look comfortable in her character.
While Zeb Rehman perfectly captured essence of an Indian woman, she randomly switches to Punjabi within Hindi which was VERY annoying.
The pace of the show is also VERY slow.
Disappointed!
Launchpad: American Eid (2021)
Finally the representation we have been asking for!
American Eid is a story of two Pakistani Muslim girls who are celebrating Eid out of Pakistan for the first time and how they are finding it difficult to fit in in a world where so many people do not even know what Eid is. I loved how it conveyed so much about Muslim and Pakistani Eid culture, fasting, eating Halal in just 20 minutes. Loved how it had some Urdu dialogues in between too so that it looked genuine. The girls acted brilliantly.
American Eid is FINALLY the representation we have been asking for, for ages!
Kudos to Aqsa Altaf for creating this heartwarming masterpiece!
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Great Visual, A little too Predictable story
Top-Notch Animation, nice story but predictable at almost every point. Also the story had 'been there seen that' written all over it.
Tom and Jerry (2021)
A Great Movie for 'Kids'
I can't understand the negative reviews here. The movie is made for kids and it serves it's purpose. I started watching it with very less expectations but I loved it very much! The acting is great. Scenes are well shot and cinematography is brilliant. I especially loved that shot of Tom and The Moon in the background. I also, quite surprisingly, liked the slightly different animation. Such a feel good movie that (obviously) defies logic but is so fun to watch! If you love Tom and Jerry and their total chaos go for it!
Alif (2019)
Mesmerizing
Best adaptation of any novel on Pakistani TV. Every cast member is like tailor made for the role. Direction and cinematography is top notch. Well done team Alif!
