Ezra (2017)
Ezra might not scare you out of the hell, but still it is a very much engaging horror thriller
From the release of the teaser itself, the expectations were sky high for Ezra. After watching Ezra, i can say that it reached those expectations of the audience. It is a milestone in Malayalam film industry, and we can see that the level of Malayalam films are changing drastically as it is getting more exposure and viewers outside Kerala. That quality can be seen in recent films in mollywood, and Ezra is the latest one to add to it. If you see a bunch of Hollywood horror films, Ezra might not scare you out of the hell, but it engages you through out the movie and can even be considered as one of the best horror films ever produced in India. Lot of scenes were inspired from Hollywood films, but director Jay. K doesn't make us feel so, because instead of copying he has executed those scenes in his own way and some scenes including climax were great and the credit should be given to the director. I am not revealing the story line as it can be a spoiler, and don't read too much reviews and comments in social media. Watch it with a fresh mind in theaters itself, u will enjoy for sure. Other things to be noted are the special effects and bgm, they are of world class standard. Coming to the performances of the entire cast, prithviraj is the soul of the movie and his performance in the climax is outstanding, in which there was a high risk of it becoming a disaster and a comic scene even if there were any minute flaws in acting.....but he acted extremely well at that part and he proves that he is one of the few actors who is not afraid to take risks. Priya anand is also gud in her role and got a break in Malayalam through her debut film here itself. Tovino Thomas although has a limited screen space, has an impact in the film...when the face of the actor shown on screen, the kind of whistles and cheers he got from the audience shows that there is a high possibility that he is gonna make it big here in mollywood in the near future itself. Another important character is Rabbi markes which is played by Sujith shanker, and he played his part well. Only misfit i felt about the casting was Sudev Nair who played the title character Abraham Ezra who only appears in the flashback part. I felt that he underplayed Abraham Ezra to a large extent and was pathetic in his role with his weird and untimely expressions, i even wondered how this actor won Kerala state best actor award. Rest of the cast did justice to their roles like Vijayaraghavan, Babu antony etc. So, watch this movie in theatres itself with your family as i said earlier that although it is a horror thriller, it is enjoyable to all kinds of audience....U wont get disappointed for sure.
Bairavaa (2017)
A decent commercial movie which could have been better..
Bairavaa is a typical Vijay movie with 4 songs, comedy, stunts, romance etc. So expecting something new from it would be unfair and it should be strictly seen as a commercial movie. But anyway film has a theme of good social relevance, but the problem is here we can see a lot of compromise for adding commercial elements. If this film was directed by Murugadoss it would have surely become another Katthi or Thuppakki. As expected, Vijay is the soul of the movie and he does what he is at best. But in one or two scenes, he seemed to overact a little which was annoying to watch...he was so natural and adorable in theri, but here something is lacking in him, may be one reason is that wig. Varlam bgm is stunning and it perfectly suits Vijay.Keerthy suresh looks very cute and beautiful, and her expressions are so attractive and she did justice to her role. Aparna Vinod has a short role but crucial in the film. There are lots of Villains and many looked like helpless...main villain Jagapathi babu is good, but i found Daniel balaji's role much sharper than him. Stunts are good, cricket fight and climax stunt have been intelligently executed. Overall, it is a decent commercial thriller which can be watched at least once and lot better than the other recent movies of the same kind.
Theri (2016)
Theri shows if an old wine is served in a refreshing way in a new bottle it can be enjoyable...!
I have seen theri without any over expectations and fully satisfied after the film completed. It was completely an ilayathalapathy show. Yes, it is a routine revenge drama and and has a predictable story line. But here atlee overcomes this problem with his fast screenplay and visuals.Bgm is just about stunning...but songs are average. But we can see a sankar touch in those songs..! Some scenes are exceptional like when Vijay crying by holding the hands of a rape victim , interval sequence ,Vijay s re entry in police station. And father daughter sequences are very cute..! Performancewise Vijay is the soul of the movie..his screen presence and charisma is enormous..! He looks stunning like never before. He does what he is at best, and here we can see how matured he become as an actor..Samantha is OK, but Amy Jackson looks like a misfit in this role with her funny wig. Mahendran as a charming villain is impressive. And rest of the cast Motta rajendran, radhika sarathkumar..all supported well. But the real show stealer here after Vijay is baby nainika...she was so cute and adorable on screen and in first 10 minutes she literally equals thalapathy. Overall it is a neatly packed entertainer for ilayathalapathy fans and i am sure it will be liked by common audience too..! Don't miss it..it will be a gud treat..!
