Never a Dull Moment (1950)
Just a Good Movie
This movie featured Irenne Dunne city slicking wife who marries a widower rancher. She and her husband (Fred McMurray)are just a fun couple who have many funny incidents that happen as a married couple. This movie is reminiscent of The Egg and I that Dunne is featured in during the 1940s. Although some say this movie is not very good for Dunne and that it is predictable-- it is funny, innocent, and a great movie for a Sunday afternoon with the family. My family and I have watched copies of this on VHS for years and I even bought another copy off ebay hoping to get a better copy (but it happened to be a copy recorded from TV--BOO ebay!). Anyway my aunt asked me to borrow my copy just the other day and I couldn't help but to watch it again. It requires little though some good laughs and a love of classic films as a prerequisite to watch this one.
End of the Spear (2005)
Well Worth Seeing
I went to see this movie with the idea that it would be a semi-National Geographic/Religious movie. Although I am a Christian, I was a bit suspicious about the movie and its intent and backing. But, after seeing it I can say that although the editing is a bit choppy, the movie has a good story and is worth the time. Some of the movie is in sub-titles (to be true to the native's languages)so I would suggest the big screen if possible. But, I will say I was touched by this movie. It shows love, forgivness, mourning, and a span of emotions. I could not help but to drop a tear or two throughout the movie. I also heard *sniff, sniff* from various corners of the theatre. So, I can honestly say I found this movie to be worth the time if you can be a little patient and watch it with an open heart. You won't regret watching this movie. I hope to watch it again at home to experience it when I can savor the story.
Shag (1988)
Fun Movie
Four friends head to Myrtle Beach, SC after high school graduation. There they meet boys, have a party (hellacious for 1963), and enter a fabulous dancing contest. This movie is fun, keeps your attention, and is wonderful to be able to see the period (early 1960s) cars, hotels, dancing pavilion, etc. in Myrtle Beach. I would recommend this movie for a nice evening to just feel good. The only bit of concern is that the original VHS that was released in 1989 and the DVD versions are fine-- but somewhere in between there was a version released on VHS for about $10 that was a disappointment-- it had deleted/changes music. Beware of this version. The new DVD version is intact. The original music is nice and adds to the era in which this movie takes place. Young and old alike will like this movie.
