Crimson Force (2005)
Lacking
I am not sure why I watched this movie to the bitter end. The budget here could not have been lower. The costumes looked rather sad, as well as many of the sets. C. Thomas Howell has worked in a lot of these Syfy films, and he never disappoints. Within 30 minutes, Howell goes from super-jerk to psychopath, which I enjoyed. It doesn't waste my time on figuring out his character development. The Martians looked a lot like Earth guys who work out at a gym all day. Luckily there was breathable air in the pyramid, too! And how convenient that everyone (the multinational crew and the aliens) speaks English! The plot was full of holes, and if I can spot them while intentionally trying to relax my brain by watching a cheesy movie, then that is disappointing. A poor Stargate.
The Wedding March (2016)
It had potential...
Jack Wagner and Josie Bissett are a good couple in this movie. Their backstory is mostly believable (disregard the real age difference to play along), and they seem real enough in their interactions. I do not believe for one second, however, that a former male pop star loves owning a B&B in the country. And the capable, successful business woman does not even bend down to try to put a bicycle chain back in place--what's up with that? All that bicycling was rather hokey anyway. The typical schmuck fiancé is just a place-holder. His character does not really contribute anything to the film. The audience is not the least bit worried that he will interfere with the love story. The mini-plot of the guy selling his house at the beginning and end is kind of a waste of space, but that apparently is the formula Hallmark likes to use. My main complaint: As another reviewer stated, I just couldn't look away from that horrible, horrible wig. It was so very distracting. Josie Bissett most likely does not even need one; I just do not understand why they stuck that messy ponytail on her head! Sigh.
Stonehenge Apocalypse (2010)
Watchable but don't think too much
Stonehenge is a great location with some mystery built into the setting, and I love watching the campy movies that Syfy makes. (Wish there were more like this!) The plot and action moved along nicely, so this one was fairly easy to watch, with few lulls. It's not high art, but we aren't really expecting that, are we? Loved that opening scene, where a tour group gets to go right up to the stones, and what luck!, they are the only ones visiting that day! The mountains in the background are especially beautiful. Who knew? The actors were mostly fine; their accents were all over the place sometimes, which was distracting. I liked the lead (Robot head!). One of the scientists really pulled off the manpri look. In several scenes. As for actual "science" and "believability," there's no reason to try to reconcile those ideas with a Syfy production. But seriously, they go from England to New York and back again in how many hours? It seemed like about two. But good work, cause the world will probably explode if they waste too much time. Overall, good. Not boring but not super-exciting or wacky-funny.
