Lock Up (1989)
Awful fun...
This film is great fun. Hammy, clichéd, over the top nonsense.
Sutherland is absolutely terrible and looks like he is on the verge of laughing in every scene - he hams it up Dr.Evil style. His evil warden character goes out of his way to destroy and break Stallone's Leone character yet there seems to be no valid reason why he would risk his whole career to do this. The warden's 'I must destroy Stallone at all cost' schemes result in several prisoners dying along the way, and these deaths fuel the Leone character to seek vengeance and justice to expose the corrupt warden and his cronies.
The supplementary characters are hilarious. The young 20 year old, Chink, who never had the opportunity to drive a Ford Mustang, and tearfully begs Stallone to give him 'just ten seconds' to rev up a beat up old car in the prison garage, as he may 'never have the opportunity again'. The prison guards are great too - especially the gap-toothed guard who convinces Stallone his wife is going to be murdered outside by a hit-man. Hilarious stuff! All in all, 'Lock Out' is probably the 'Best Worst Movie' ever made.
Arthur 2: On the Rocks (1988)
'The worst film of the entire 1980s' - Time Out.
Arthur 2 on the rocks is remembered by many as possibly the worst film of the entire 1980s. Perhaps it could claim the title of worst film ever made? What I do know for sure is that Arthur 2 on the rocks is a poorly conceived, written, and preformed shadow of a film that deserves no credit or respect. The fact that people on this board would actually believe this film should be rated above 1 star reflects badly on their ability to honestly critique a motion picture.
Arthur 2 on the rocks was garbage when I was watched it as a ten year old, and nothing has redeemed it now that I am an adult 20 years later.
Avoid.
