Snatcher (1988)
An amazing game by the genius behind Metal Gear! *Sega CD*
Hideo Kojima is a man best known for the Metal Gear series which spans more than 20 years since the original MSX game. It is by far the best game series of all time. And then, I played Snatcher, which impressed me equally as much. Note also that the Sega CD version is the only English version of Snatcher (I think there are fan translations for the original though).
If you have seen "Blade Runner", it is basically a rip-off. But also a very good one that takes elements from other movies such as "Terminator". You play as Gillian Seed in an organization that hunts down "Snatchers", a robotic life form that takes over the victims body. I won't tell you anymore than this, otherwise it might spoil the game for you.
Gameplay is almost entirely done through choosing actions through menu's (with the exception of a few shooting scenes). It is similar to a point and click adventure, just without all the pointing :P Sound and music is one of the awesome things about it. Long before Metal Gear Solid came to show how voice acting is meant to be done, we had Snatcher! Fantastic voice acting that I believe could even surpass Metal Gear Solid! Music is chilling and atmospheric. High quality too, due to the Sega CD technology.
In conclusion, if you are a fan of Metal Gear Solid and it's story features, you will truly appreciate this game. It is hard to find and valuable for Sega CD. But that's why we have emulation, figure it out yourself... As said earlier, this has a lot of things copied from Blade Runner, which is also a great movie, so see that as well.
If you are trying to find a good cult game that doesn't suck up to the masses (coughhalocough) then get yourself to play Snatcher. It's one of the greatest games you'll ever play.
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (1997)
A great game!
This is a prequel Mortal Kombat game with all new game play.
You play as the legendary kombatant Sub-Zero, the Lin Kuei send him on a mission to collect elements for a sorcerer (and newly trusted ally) named Quan-Chi.
Gameplay: The game play is a cross between fighting and a plat former, very different to the previous Mortal Kombat games. There are puzzles to work out and you have to get through obstacles by timing your movements. Sub-Zero has all his special moves and combos intact and can even do his classic spine rip fatality.
Sound: The sound is basically average for this game, nothing special.
Graphics: Digitized sprites (Like MK1-3) crossed with 3D levels. I like the fact that they kept the digitized look and feel of MK.
Story: A great story! A good explanation of Sub-Zero's background.
Lastability: The game has 8 levels, except they will take lots of try's because of the high difficulty. After you finish it once there's nothing to do except do it all over again.
Controls: Not as dodgy as hyped up to be, the only bad thing is having a turn button which changes direction, but you get used to the controls quick.
I suggest trying it first, just remember to give it a chance before you hate it. The problem why a lot of people hate it is because it's damn hard, but I wouldn't want a game you could finish in 5 hours.
Only get if you're a hardcore fan of the series.
8/10
Escape from New York (1981)
a very good movie
When I was about six years old I remember watching escape from L.A. and I really liked it (I wasn't aware that it was a sequel until recently). So I decided to rent the DVD of escape from new york the other day, at first when I was watching it i thought... Is this a joke? The movie was weird and I didn't get much of what was going on and who the hell these guys where. So I watched it again later and payed close attention and listened to everything, And it now ends up to be in my top 10 movies! New york, crime escalates 400 percent in the "future" of 1988 (lol). New york is turned into a giant prison where 3 million criminals live. The barriers around stop the people inside from coming out and has maximum security 24/7. When you go in you can't get out. The prisoners live in the world that they have created for themselves. This movie is then set in the "future" of 1997 where new york is still a maximum security prison. But air force one (the presidents plane) is flying over new york it is hijacked by a crazy cult member and is crashed into a building there. The president gets out into the escape pod just before it crashes carrying an important tape with him. A war hero and now a criminal Snake Plissken is sent in to recover the president and get him out of the now very dangerous new york city. He has no choice because he is implanted with tiny bombs that will blow his arteries up in 22 hours unless he gets back in time with the president and tape, when he gets back they will cure him. So he is on a race against time to escape from new york and recover the lost goods.
The thing that makes this film good is because it was made with only 5 million dollars and has an excellent dark atmosphere and plot that complicates through the movie. It show's that you don't need lot's of money to do a good film. All you need is imagination. Some aspects of the film may be outdated by today but this film is still one of the best movies made by today. But don't be expecting lots of action.
I hope you watch this film and share the same opinion I have. It also has a great music score.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
the best movies of all time
This movie came out in Australia only just over a week ago, I am a big Tim Burton fan and like all his movies. So I was looking forward to it since I heard that he was making an adaption of Charlie. So I went to see it first day and was very excited when the screen lit up. In the first 10 minutes my face was stuck facing the screen, it was amazing! The sets, acting, unique characters everything was good. Johnny Depp hadn't even come in yet! I was worried that Tim Burton would go too far with this movie and would lose his style. I was so wrong! Most people my age hated this movie but it was the best movie of all time! And then the chocolate factory scenes came in and my head was even more frozen in position of the screen. Johnny Depp has always been one of my favorite actors. His performance in this movie is incredible, he is so different to other actors and so much better. So I strongly urge everybody to see this movie.
