Leave the World Behind (2023)
Very good movie that's NOT for thrill seekers
This is a really good movie that explores some very real future possibilities. Thrill seekers stay away from this to spare others of their dumb opinions and expectations. The scenarios expressed here are quite real and it's also real that a super hero won't arrive just in time to save the world.
That being the case, a very real possibility is explored with some good film making and acting. If u look at it carefully, under such a circumstance, you will only have access to the immediate world around you. What you can make out of it is how your life will be from there on.
It also shows how in today's world, u r conditioned to expect chaos, disaster etc and also quickly move on to the next scene (in your life) based on your interests.
Aayirathil Oruvan (2010)
Contrived piece of crap
To think that a producer got conned into financing this and actors got enrolled into acting in this is unbelievable.
When sick minds express themselves, this will be the result. Somehow,in time, probably enamoured by visions of the female actors, it is regarded as a cult movie.
No logic, no sense of history, no clue of heritage and an actual glorious past, filthy film makers twist everything as they please to reveal their sick minds and small time intent, in the name of art.
The only good thing about this movie is the music. Unfortunately capable actors got pulled into this project making fools of themselves.
3 hrs of disgusting low life crap.
Breast Tax (2021)
Complete nonsense peddled by commies
The breast tax is not a true story. Its complete communist propaganda peddle continuously to circulate the often repeated oppression narrative.
Women in Kerala seldom wore upper garments till 20th century. Even in early 1900s it was common practice. There are enough accounts & depictions of foreign travellers where even the Queen is depicted as such
A 17th-Century Dutch visitor William Van Nieuhoff writes about the attire of Ashwathi Thirunal Umayamma Rani, then queen of Travancore, in the following manner:
"... I was introduced into her majesty's presence. She had a guard of above 700 Nair soldiers about her, all clad after the Malabar fashion; the Queen's attire being no more than a piece of callicoe wrapt around her middle, the upper part of her body appearing for the most part naked, with a piece of callicoe hanging carelessly round her shoulders."
He drew a sketch of the queen and her attendants in his work (Voyages and travels to the East Indies; 1653-1670), where it is quite clear that the queen and her attendants wore little to no cloth to cover their bosoms.
If 17th Century seems a bit dated for our debate, let's look at a few evidences from 19th and early 20th centuries, the very era our fable is supposed to have taken place. The story implies that nakedness was a humiliation imposed by the upper caste on the lower caste women, with the intention of depriving them of modesty and the luxury of wearing a second piece of cloth.
This accusation hardly holds water when you realise that women of Nambuthiri families and affluent Nair families themselves saw no need for a breast-covering garment, either as a sign of luxury or 'modesty'.
As to the specific story of Nangeli and her self-mutilation as protest, there are no historical records of any authenticity of such an event taking place.
A careful look at the references and sources of the Wikipedia article on Nangeli reveal that all of them are from the last decade and mostly from the last couple of years. None of them cites any historical records on Nangeli.
Documentary & film makers got a good opportunity for propaganda and use the subject for showing breasts.
Pathaan (2023)
Cringe
Can't believe this movie made the money they claimed it did. Absolute dud and running of false narratives. There is no way this dud can b tolerated a full watch in the age of Stranger Things, even well made Indian Netflix series like Family Man and Farzi.
Shirtless men and a lead female who simply can't emote, unbearably crappy dialogues. Atleast the music could hv been appealing, but whoever the crapist who did the music for this film couldn't put together 3 interesting notes together.
Would these actors have felt stupid after acting in such movies? I doubt.
Simply couldn't sit thro beyond an hour.
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam (2022)
Quirky brilliant film making.
Another quirky movie from Lijo's stable. With all the things happening in the entertainment industry, this man lives in a different universe and James in this movie is a glimpse of that.
Only one thing! How did James remember the way back to the bus through all those streets after returning back as James who is unfamiliar with the place😉
Anyway, it's a really cool film that can be made like this only in Malayalam. Only Malayalam film industry has products like this👐.
Although everybody has limited roles, every actor has performed brilliantly, including Ramya Pandyan. U hv to hand it to her to be completely deglamorised in some movies although she has the potential for modern trendy performances. Maybe she should choose a fun mod script next to avoid the risk of being typecast in such roles.
The use of so many old Tamil film scenes and beautiful old Tamil songs is another master stroke of Lijo.
Hope he continues to explore more supernatural and quirky themes. Santhosh Narayanan will be the right music composer to match him.
Varisu (2023)
Stupidity in the age of international OTT
Soon such movies with overblown heroism will become outdated thanks the OTT in everybody's phone and we wouldn't have to endure 2hours in a theatre watching substandard stuff. No matter how big a hero is, it is only good script and writing that's going to matter. Unfortunately, this movie is more like a run of the mill Telegu movie. Yes Telegu movie, not even Tamil.
The heroine has a pretty face and a smile but her face is expressionless. Background score is mostly boring. Lavish sets and beautiful locations won't save a hollow script of overblown predictable melodarama.
Film makers should invest more on good scripts than on overpriced stars.
Connect (2022)
Boring drivel
Aside from the very basic script, we have a periyarist Sathyaraj meekly mouthing Praise the Lords and following rudimentary exorcism commands in English. If this movie had a Hindu priest, it would have been debated on Tamil TV for a week about how unscientific and superstitious beliefs are encouraged by Hindu society and religion. Now, a few lines of of English words which r not even phonetic, was enough to drive out an evil spirit that was simultaneously operating in 3 different locations, in the name of Christ who couldn't save himself and for riveted on a cross. Such is the absurdity Tamil society has descended itself into.
Sree Dhanya Catering Service (2022)
Useless movie
There is nothing in this movie. A bunch of useless guys decide to make Biriyani for a kid's birthday. It's better to spend ur time eating biriyani than watch this boring movie. There could have been funny situations and interesting dialogues; but if there was a way to perfect nothingness, you have it here.
Don't waste your time watching this in anticipation. All the actors perform well. But, there has to be something in the writing to engage the audience. There is absolutely nothing.
In the end, there is no biriyani too because they all got drunk and didn't do it. This completes the uselessness.
Natchathiram Nagargirathu (2022)
Pretentious crap
I really don't know what is there in this movie. Why would someone want to watch it. It's marketed as one celebrating love. Sarapata was a good film. This is awful to say the least.
Beyond the lack of anything interesting, we have all the pretentious crap. High caste, low caste. We are sick of all this. If u don't want caste, just leave it aside. Instead, u want to talk of oppression, caste by creating all kinds of artificial situation. We have seen enough of this. Tamil movies reek of this, its starting to stink.
Pa Ranjith can't stop talking about eating beef. He won't talk of eating pork. Buddhist symbols - he what happened to Sri Lankan Tamils. They were oppressed by Buddhists primarily. Same fate for Tamils in Burma. Just half baked fools preaching without knowing things in detail and misleading innocent youth.
A movie has to have something interesting to watch. He managed to make a movie with nothing interesting. It's a great achievement. I waited till the end to see if there was something worthwhile. Same old nonsense. What a waste of time.
All actors are capable of good acting. Cinematography is good. Music is OK. Previously, that strong music of Santhosh Narayan used to be there. But this is equally disappointing. Good for SN he didn't work in this movie.
Kanam (2022)
Such a beautiful movie
Nicely conceived, beautifully written and made. Time travel made in a simple and sweet way. Nice to see Amala Akhineni in a movie after a long time. Nice choice as the mother. She seems as pure as she always was.
The whole cast has acted well. Perfect cinematography, very good music. Very realistic as well as engrossing movie that pulls your emotions too.
Some of the movies made nowadays are gangster stuff or silly heroic nonsense. Here is a good film you feel nice after watching. Thanks to the creators.
More people need to watch this so that makers are encouraged to do more good films that all can see.
The Arbit Documentation of An Amphibian Hunt: Aavasavyuham (2022)
Pushing film craft
Movies like this push film craft in different ways. What starts like a documentary moves in interesting ways bring out the characterisation and human emotions.
Unlike some of the pretentious leftist crap that get dished out every now and then in Malayalam & Tamil films, this one gives it real even to the activists who only mostly succeed in destroying anything good around.
If the amphibian went a about his life without mixing with the wretched activist communist, he might have got a good life eating what he wanted and also a girl who took to him. But, typically, if u get mixed up with such activists, your life will be ruined and society will continue with its ways.
Good film and good film making.
Vazhiye (2022)
Most reviews here seem fake
I don't see what is there in this film. In the end, they hv also show Hindu culture in bad light. The music is good though. It's a strain on the eyes as well. Waste of time.
Paper Rocket (2022)
Nicely made series
Nicely made series without unnecessary nonsense and yet very pleasant to watch. Nicely crafted, beautiful visuals, music and very apt acting with life. Wish to point out to Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi that this business of Rama & Sita is complete falsehood inserted into Ramayana later to interpolate our history and is not at all there in the original Valmiki Ramayana. Women had complete freedom at that time even to do whatever they wanted as can be seen in all our epics. The 'oppression' of women happened only after the Victorian prudes and marauding Mugols.
The Man Who Fell to Earth (2022)
Loved it
Its a really well made, well acted series. I hope they r busy making the 2nd season or whatever. I have not seen the previous one with David Bowie, but this one does put you in the right space of science fiction.
