The Holiday (2021)
7/10
Intriguing
9 July 2022
Don't understand all the bad reviews. Didn't expect much at the beginning but was in the mood for some beautiful holiday like scenery. We ended up watching all 4 episodes in one sitting. Loved the who -dunnit plot which kept the storyline intriguing and the twist at the end was unusual, I haven't seen that coming and thought it was well put together. Acting at times could have been better but overall everyone played their part well (it's their job to play annoying characters! So if they annoyed you that means they played well!).

A solid 7!

so far so boring

This is basically Big Little Lies set in New-York... C'mon isn't there more creativity in American TV series anymore other than recycling two year old series that happened to be a big hit... Lame.

Gave up
18 August 2020
Just finished the excellent Sopranos and was looking for some new TV series to binge on. Whilst the plot sounded interesting on paper, I could not force myself to finish second episode as it's so unbearably boring and poorly written. Life is too short for bad tv.

Ridiculous
7 August 2020
By the end of this film we couldn't help but laugh at some hideous plot "twists" and at how ridiculous some of the characters were behaving. It's basically a gory horror film with characters you want to scream at for their stupid behaviour and yet it tries to deliver a serious message somewhere between all that butchering left and right.

meh

It could have been good, but the execution was rather poor. Nothing about the characters made me believe that they would act the way they did, it kind of just concluded that poor people are stupid, rather than that poverty/in search of better life led them to take desperate measures and make silly mistakes.

There are plenty of other films where the idea of poverty followed by tragic events were constructed in a better and more realistic way, this one doesn't even fall in the mediocre category.

I need more.

This film should have been a 10-episode series instead. There is so much narrative to explore, at times it felt like they tried to cram in as much as possible so it felt a bit messy. I guess they wasted the budget on all those celebrities so could only afford 2hours...

I really enjoyed the fact that the film was filmed from a Cuban point of view rather than an American Cuban which is normally the case. A breath of fresh air.

P.S. Ana de whatever is a terrible actresse, she was extremely annoying in each scene, unless this was deliberate to represent "shallow" American culture at the time?! If not, please stop casting her.

Boring
29 April 2020
The book was relatively good. I was intrigued when I heard about the adaption . I must say I'm very dissapointed. Not because it doesn't match my book impression but because it is just so plain, tedious and boring. I just couldn't finish it unfortunately. I guess I should give it a go again, reading other raving reviews, but not sure I'm willing to waste any more time on mediocracy .
