There is a lot of speculation about whether Gavin is actually communicating with the dead or imagining it. In a Season 1 episode, he finds a little girl and has a conversation with her until the others can lift the collapsed ceiling off of her. She told him her name, favorite ice cream and candy bar, etc., and then the paramedic said that she had died instantly because the collapse had broken her neck. Gavin heard her and followed the sound to find her. He never checked with anyone to find out if her name really was Maura, or about her favorites. I wonder if the writer was wrong or he was about the contents of Moose Tracks ice cream.
