Die Hard (1988)

I promise i will never go up in a tall building again
21 November 2023
Back 1988 Die Hard set the bar high for action movies, but its the patient story telling that builds into this high octaine climax. Its funny exciting and keeps you gripped from the first frame. Bruce Willis is top of his game here but is Alan Rickman that nearly steals the thunder as Hans Gruber .In an almost campy bad guy Rickman picks the ball up and runs, and you can cleary see how much fun he is having playing the role. This isnt perfect but a case of perfect casting for every role ( Reginald Vel Johnson is perfect as sgt Al Powell) Enjoy this christmas movie. Now i have a machine gun ho ho ho.

Frasier: The Matchmaker (1994)
Season 2, Episode 3

Masterclass in writing
11 October 2023
One the best ever Frasier episodes.brilliantly acted. Top writing.beautifully paced.this came early on in this amazing show and really set the stall out of how good this show could be. After a simple mix up Frasier ends up on a date with a man but dosent realise it. They are hard laughs to be had.but at the core of this its really quite sweet. David hyde pierce nearly steals the show here.his deadpan dropping of lines is second to none only matched by grammers beautiful acting switching from camp to panic stricken with just a roll of the eyes.if u have nva watched frasier before try this one...

Art for arts sake?
31 August 2023
Theres no denying lynch is one of the most influential directors of a generation.but this unholy mess dosent even come close to his best work.maybe im thick but i just didnt get it.i honestly could not tell the plot or what anyone was going on about from start to finish.the actors struggle with a dud of a script and the editing makes no sense to the story.wether its studio interference of just lazyiness of the makers is hard to tell.film noir is great but it still has to entertain.art for arts sake at its worst.i think you have to be part of the click to underdstand it.a complete waste........

One of the funniest films ever..
29 August 2023
The greatest comedy pairing duo since laural and hardy.its a shame martin and candy didnt make more films because they are both top of thier game here. The script sparkles and the pace keeps the story going from one hilarious situation to the next.but at the heart of this is heart and underlined sadness.but funny as hell at the same time.go figure?favourite moment ? Tough but its the dog on the back of the truck that kills me everytime! ( nearly wore my tape out rewinding that bit ,kids ask someone older what 'rewind' means).special mention must go to the supporting cast who are all excellent..

Dreadfull
20 August 2023
Im starting dread the words netflix presents because it seems you could send them some pigsh## in an evenvelope and they wd greenlight it. This story has been told a thousand times(only much better). The villian is about as scary as gone off bread, what is scary thou is the acting. Truly wooden all round. This is about the tenth film ive watched on netflix and they are getting worse every time. We are getting fobbed off with 5th rate rubbish and honestly netflix will be the death of film.watch at your peril and make your own judgements but be warned this isnt even campy fun.its just a total mess.ugh.

Disturbing
17 August 2023
Loosely based on the life of marti caine this isnt an easy watch by any means. Grim is the colours its painted in with acholism abuse and 70s male attitudes at the centre of this compeling drama. Maxine Peak takes center stage and is top of her game yet again and some superb cameos(Stephen Graham take a bow,the guy can do no wrong) make this an above average drama that dosent pull its punches. There are some disturbing scenes but also some very funny ones. On the downside the script wavers at times and the flashbacks can leave needing a minute to catch up.but overall a decent film.relax and enjoy.

Interesting take on a sports movie
17 July 2023
Sports stories rarely cross over into film very well. Particully when sprinkled with hollywood crap( thumping score/slow motions/underdog etc) but this manages to concentrate on the focus and unfocus of the players involed.drawing out real emtoion of two troubled men.one a headstrong passionate force of nature, and the ice cold intrevert who longs to escape the thrill of fame and fortune.skillfully directed with a decent script this isnt a award winner but mention has to go to the two leads who shine as McEnroe and borg.and for some one who actually watched this live on tv and they have it spot on.

Just Dont
30 April 2023
Is there a zero on this thing? Because that would be too much. This is awful,i mean i wasnt expecting shakesphere, granted but hells bells.bad production a clunkhead of a script and the worst acting this side of crossroads(under 30 please google it). To cap it all its not even entertaining like the older slasher movies used to be. Will this be seen as a classic in years to come? Nope. Its dire. Already a sequel in the pipeline so expect a load of these. Save your money and an hour and half of your life and take up counting leaves on trees, honestly it will be more fun. And the ending? Well it rymes with kite.

Sleep Data,Sleep
8 May 2022
Quite simply put, stunning.still stands up nearly 30 years later and still gives me goosebumps. I remember watching part 1 and bieng so excited and frustated that i would have to wait a full 6 months before i could watch pt 2.(it was terrestial tv,kids ask your parents). The wait was a long one but boy was it worth it. Conflict ,action real emotion its all there. Impossible not to enjoy. Some say this was the best next gen ever got, well if not its pretty dam close. But what this did do was put some meat on the characters and future next gen storys. Its one of those times where everyone is top of thier game, acting ,writing, direction, effects. Sit back relax and enjoy.

Great fun
18 April 2022
Great fun and what Star Trek in all forms. I remember going to the cinema to see this and bieng thrilled to see my tv heros up there on the big screen. Ok its a bit of a clunky script and not exactly plot driven but we do get to see Picard and Kirk doing there best scrapping.relax sit back and enjoy for what it is. Pure entertainment.

Quite Simply Brillaint
5 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
With now what would be considered a stella cast ,this brillaint, funny masterpiece still remains one of my all time favourites. Alec Guinness is on top form as Proffessor Marcus the would be Bank robber and so is Peter Sellers in one of his early roles. To be fair the whole cast is in this very dark comedy which was years ahead of its time. But special mention must go to Katie Johnson as Mrs Wilbourforce, who frankly was born to play this role. It Also serves as a master class in film making( The robbery bieng nothing short of a Micheal Mann film). Well sit back and enjoy 91 minutes of dark witty humour beautifully filmed and acted. And before i go remember'No one Touches mrs lopside ok'

Simply The Best
24 May 2021
The springboard for 'new'comedy for generations. This is simply the blueprint for all that was to come from blackadder to Father Ted to The Office and many many more.

12 amazing episodes and thats it it was gone they were gone. Nearly forty years old and people still quoting lines and doing impressions. If 2 or 3 people over 50 get together they will impersonate Rik Mayall or Ade Edmundson. Often crude, violent, silly but so very funny. Imagine this had never been made. Life would be so boring. And we would never had the god that was Rik. If you have never watched it do so now.you wont be disapionted. To the station !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
