Dune (2021)
Not perfect, but good!
Villeneuve proves once again that he may be the best director out there right now. Every single shot in Dune is perfect, every single scene looks stunning.
But still, his version of Herbert's masterpiece feels a bit flat compared to the book. What is missing is depth. Not just the characters feel sometimes a bit too one dimensional, the story also lacks certain details of the novel that made this book so extraordinary.
In the end it is a abitious adaption of an almost unadaptable book. Dune is not perfect, but it's good enough to be great.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch: Reunion (2021)
The best episode yet!
Finally, the main story progresses. The encounter between the Bad Batch and Crosshair is surprisingly tense. This is what this series can and should be. But the best moment of this episode definitely is the Sergio Leone style duel between Hunter and Cad Bane, which concludes in the capture of Omega.
A very strong episode, and I have a great feeling about this that the best is yet to come!
Star Wars: The Bad Batch: Rampage (2021)
The Rancor!!
Seriously, Jabbas (baby) Rancor stole the show. I will never be able to watch ROTJ the way I did until this episode anymore.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch: Replacements (2021)
Darkness rises
After a pretty bright last episode, this one is really dark...
and Crosshair definitely stole everyone the show.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch: Cut and Run (2021)
It's about family
This episode is mostly about the relationship between Hunter and Omega and the burden of having a family.
Filoni takes the first step and starts developing the protagonists and also shows the effects of the empires rise on ordinary people. It is a slow episode indeed, but the pace fits perfectly to build up to what is still to come.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch: Aftermath (2021)
Good start
A very enjoyable and fun episode to watch. I am looking forward to what is coming next.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 13: The Jedi (2020)
Less than I expected
The problem with The Mandalorian is the lack of connection between the main characters like Moff Gideon or now Ahsoka Tano. Her episode feels just like a fan pleaser, a very good one indeed. But I expected her to be more important. Many characters just appear for one episode and then disapear again without something memorable. This episode was like: I don't want to train the child but I will, if you help me with my own not very interesting mission. But in the end she's like: No I can't train him. You have to go anywhere else and then they seperate again. That is not what a good story should be. Every episode somehow stand for itself without any good connection. I expected this one to be more emotionally satisfying and to have a greater story. Don't understand me wrong, this episode was good, but with Ahsoka there were much more and much better things possible than what we got. GOT for exapmle proofed that it is possible to have countless characters and still a great storyline throughout the seasons. This is what is still missing in The Mandalorian and the show will be even better than already if they are able to fix this problem.
Tenet (2020)
Nolans new masterpiece?
Tenet is packed with great action sequences an an incredible complex and compelling Story, but Nolan forgot that complex characters and their development throughout the movie is an essential aspect for making a masterpiece.
