My Trans American Road Trip (2016)
Insightful
In My Trans American Road Trip it gave a very eye opening experience on the pain and the abuse that many transgender people suffer. In this TV show it highlighted the struggles that transgender people face on a daily bases. It was very shocking to see the true impact of the Bathroom Bill. In America it is shown as predominantly Christian state and due to this many of the American citizens are against the idea of a transgender person as many believe that it is inhumane and goes against Gods plan. We are all created by God; He has not made any mistakes and you should not change yourself, this is what they believe. Another very disturbing scene shown is the outburst by a mother in Walmart. She made an outrages statement: "Are you going to let the devil rape your children" she screamed angrily in the store. This was a clip that was uploaded to YouTube. This is very distressing and leads me to believe that throughout the media transgender people are marginalized. In addition to this there is a belief/a rumor that all transgender people are sexual predators and that is why many people fear for their children when they have to share a toilet with them. This is a very harsh statement it is wrong to just stereotype a group of people. America is becoming a segregated society especially since the election of the new president: Trump. There will be many changes, not all for the better. Also Trump supports the bathroom bill so things will defiantly get harder. Although there are many disturbing representations in the media of transgender people there is also a good representation in the media, this was created by a Broadway production group called Kinky Boots. The producers Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper rewrote lyrics to their musical's finale. The song they created was called "Just Pee (Where You Want To Pee)"supporting the transgender community. This song defiantly raised awareness as currently it has 185035 views and 3033 likes (13.11.16). This TV show encourages you to think before you speak and to take into consideration others thoughts and feelings. It is a must see show and I think it will change your perspective. Watch it to find out if your opinion changes.
Murdered by My Father (2016)
Interesting
This was a thrilling drama. It contained very dramatic scenes that gave viewers an insight of what happens when you bring shame on your family especially in western cultures. This is known as honour killings. It was very disturbing and upsetting to view this as I believe it is wrong and its disappointing to know that even now this is still going on. The drama is a very good film for surveillance as the statistics at the end of the film where true it showed how many deaths have happened due to honour killings. The daughter Salma is the main character she is forced by her father into an arrange marriage as within their culture this is a norm. However she is in love with another man(Imi), he is a good boyfriend and is very respectful towards her. Even when she runs away to his house she is asleep in the bed however he is on the floor which suggest that he is maybe genuinely in love with her as they may not yet be intimate. The daughter suggests that she doesn't mind an arrange marriage if its to Imi however her dad wants her to be with a wealthier man. This film expressed the struggles of women. It was very interesting.
My Brother the Devil (2012)
It gave a insight on what life is like in the endz from a different prospective
My brother the devil is a thrilling drama. It captivates what life is like in the streets, what it is like to be a road man and the struggles that males face on the road. One of the unexpected struggles of the film was the fact that Rash is gay. This was very shocking as this type of homosexual culture is not usually expressed within films that involve gang culture as it is often frowned upon. Even within the film Rash's brother Mo is so disappointed to the fact that his brother is gay, he would prefer if his brother was a terrorist. This expresses how in society if you were to be gay it is not excepted. In addition to this their religion doesn't condemn you to be gay as they are Muslim it would be considered haram.
