Not for american blockbuster lovers
14 August 2021
If you are the type who loves to see heroes killing everybody and lots of blood, this is not for you. If you are also the type who thinks that the Americans and the British won the war and nothing happened on the Eastern Front, well this is not for you either. But if you like to learn and you are open to new narratives, if you are sensitive and you are used to watch dramas, this is a good film. And if you liked it, maybe you could try to read a bit more of what happened on that side of the war and put yourself in the shoes of the soviet soldiers. The barbarism of the German hordes, and their European allies, portrayed in this film are just a glimpse of the reality. Recommended!

Lost Highway (1997)

Absolute genius
3 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
David Lynch only had to include some lines of the script that he left out to make this film easily understood. In this way, most people are just puzzled trying to figure out what really happen.

My interpretation of it all is that Fred Madison killed his wife and then his mind rewrote what happened in a way that he could live with it, while doing his best to forget that he actually murdered his wife (remember things his own way, not necessarily as they happened). The police eventually forces him to remember (the VHS tapes) and he is sentenced to death.

Before that happens, he escapes mentally to a different reality in his head, now he's younger guy and more virile, but no matter to where he escapes, his sick mind -- the Mystery man" (who sees his wife as a whore) -- won't let him have peace.

To complete his delusion he also kills Dick Laurent and Andy, people he believed had relations with his wife but in reality they only existed in his head.

This is the story of a very sick man who was very insecure and jealous and that led him to madness and eventually kill his wife. Most of what we see it's just the head of Fred Madison remembering things his own way.

A call to intellectuals
29 November 2019
This is a very simple story and I think Amenabar wants to warn us about the dangers we are facing today. Our intellectuals, not only academics, are watching, without any big unrest, the rise of fascism in our countries and aren't clearly going against it. Miguel Unamuno was one of them, he thought their current regime (the republic) wasn't going good enough and he believed that those right wingers bringing some force and order could solve the problems of Spain. He even financed them! Meanwhile, he closed his eyes to the reality, despite warnings from very close friends, and all the signs around him, but then, when he woke up, it was already too late. See any resemblance to what is happening today? What are our intellectuals doing? Think about it, soon it might be too late again.

Amália (2008)

No, this is not our best movie at all!

No, this is not our best movie at all!

I'm a huge fan of Amália, so I really wanted to see this movie and I did. It's nice, but what's the real problem with it? Well, apart from the fact that this movie adds some fiction to suit better the audience, it really doesn't show at all how famous she gets. Her career is almost like secondary and what really matters is the romance... So, if you like soap operas, you'll like this one; OK, to be honest you'll get to know Amália better, and that's the best thing about this film; It helps to promote Amália, making people who didn't know her so well to have a glimpse of how great she was.
