Beautiful Creatures (2013)
Snoozefest
I am totally into supernatural type movies/TV with a love story, so I was very excited to go and see this one. My mom had read the books and said they were great, but I knew nothing about the story. I have never been SO BORED as I was while watching!! At one point I began to drift to sleep. At another point I was thinking about how I could have been at home finishing my laundry. If I had been by myself I would have left, but I was with my friend (who was also very disappointed). I felt there was almost zero character development, so I didn't fall in love with any of them. Ethan had cute, funny one-liners here and there, but other than that there was no substance.
There was no excitement. No substance. Do yourself a favor and see something else, stay home and watch a movie, or do some laundry. ANy way to make good of the two hours of your life you will never get back.
Beyond the Pole (2009)
Fantastic Film!
I flew to San Francisco to see this film...and it was well worth it! I can honestly say a majority of the audience enjoyed it as much as I did. Lots of laughter! And for Alexander Skarsgard fans, you get to see his comedic side once again as a gay Norwegian Olympic champ.
Stephen and Rhys do a remarkable job portraying best friends; their chemistry together makes one think they have known each other for ages. Rosie Cavaliero who plays Brian's wife, Sandra is fantastic - while she is riddled with worry about her husband, she is also supportive of his decision. Helen Baxendale and Mark Benton do a great job as key roles throughout the movie.
All in all, I give the film ten out of ten stars. You will find yourself laughing out loud with the audience and learning an important lesson on global warming as well. Director and co-writer, David L. Williams had the right idea to use comedy to raise awareness to the masses on the issue.
