The Fall Guy (2024)
The worst movie of 2024 bar none!
Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt usually have star power. But their names aren't enough to save this mess of a movie about a stunt man trying to win back his lady love. There is no plot, the dialogue is sophomoric, actors ham it up for the cameras but do little else and Ryan Gosling flexes his muscles and tries to look cool. The film was so boring that many movie-goers were leaving the theater before the film was halfway over. It ran like a Saturday morning kiddie cartoon.
There were scenes with cars on fire, bar fights, stunt men climbing the sides of buildings or jumping out of airplanes. Where is Tom Cruise when you need him?
The Holdovers (2023)
Formula film missed the mark
This is a movie about a boarding school brat who is left on campus over Christmas break by his mother and her boyfriend. The student is very unhappy to be left in the care of a teacher. The film follows them as they try to get through the holiday together. The teacher has a flawed personality and high expectations. The "student" is actually a 22 year old actor who seemed too old for the role of a teenager. Supporting cast tried to lift the film up but was not successful; The film attempts to be relevant and engaging but was predictable and cloying instead. You are better off waiting for it on cable.
Kounodori (2015)
2015 production, Dr. Storks, is still worth seeing in 2024
Set in the neo-natal unit of a modern Japanese hospital.each
episode features the doctors, nurses and patients who work together to bring babies into the world. There is no romance but lots of real-life issues are discussed in the show. Topics such as teen pregnancy, miscarriage, stillbirth, fetal defects, post-partum depression and single parenting are worked into episodes. Birthing scenes, are sanitized but given the culture, that is understandable. The cast is believable, except for a beautiful 18 year old girl portraying a doctor who would have been ten years older. The show honors mothers and the contributions they make to their families. The overriding theme is "hope" for the future. I was drawn in by this show, which has English subtitles and a lead actor,, known as "Baby" who plays piano in evey episode.
Downton Abbey (2019)
Wraps Up Like a Christmas Present
The audience gets the nostalgia it came for in this two-hour period piece.
Most of the actors from previous productions appear but some have very
little to do. What you will get are lavish costumes and sets, genteel ladies
and gentlemen and a plot line straight out of Singing In The Rain. There
is little, to offer in the way of suspense or surprise. This film is a gift to fans wrapped in a bow. If there aren't any more sequels, the series still satisfies
hunger for a simpler, happier time.
The Lost City (2022)
Silly Romp wastes star power
I used to see movies like this on Saturday morning television.
Something to entertain the kids while Mom cleaned the house.
Sandra Bullock is adorable, as always. But even a hunky Brad
Pitt can't float this island shipwreck.
The Little Things (2021)
Good actors can't save bad plot.
Denzel Washington has had a distinguished career. But he's totally wasted in this buddy-cop movie that uses fantasy and flashbacks to sell its razor-thin plot line
The Surrogate (2020)
Mama drama doesn't deliver
This production is just the latest in a string of "surrogate-as-victim" stories made (up) for television. Here, a kinky Hollywood couple get their surrogate pregnant and then pull out all the stops to terrify her. This lazy production features unknown actors. Hopefully, they will want to leave this bomb off their resumes.
Arranged (2007)
Could Have Been A Hallmark movie
A young Muslim and Jewish woman coming of age become friends and find out the have almost parallel lives. Both are teachers and long to be happy wives, as well. The movie stumbles in a scene about accepting others as they are. However, it did have some highlights, including that the best matrch-maker in the film is not who you would expect. I enjoyed the movie a lot.
Hide and Seek (2005)
What's that smell?
A wedding night game of "hide and seek"pits a bride against
the groom's family. Will she survive it? Will we survive sitting
through this stinker? Save your money.
