Black Cake (2023)
Extremely inauthentic - Casting missed the mark BIG TIME!
Why oh why do production companies persist on casting non-Jamaicans in Jamaican roles?
There are enough talented actors in Jamaica who could have made this production more authentic, but oh no they went along with the standard trope that anyone can 'sound' Jamaican accent. This is insulting as the ones in this series sounded dreadful, but I feel that this was done for the American audience (I am British born of Jamaican parentage).
I'm quite sure that some of the individuals have good acting abilities, but my gosh casting them in this production was simply wrong and ruined what had the potential of being a great show because I cringed everytime one of the 'Jamaican' actors spoke.
I will read the book instead as I feel that this production does not honour what was written by Ms Wilkerson.
The Deceived (2020)
Dreadful
Had high expectations as this was trending on Netflix, but cannot understand why.
Dreadful acting and a waste of 2½ hours of my life as I do not have the desire to continue watching.
The score of two is for the scenic and picturesque views otherwise it deserves 'null points'!
On Becoming a God in Central Florida (2019)
Promising start but downhill mid-series
Started off very well giving viewers an insight into what happens with these pyramid schemes. However the series went off kilter and became a challenge to watch.
Top marks to Kirsten Dunst who gave a stellar performance.
Loudermilk (2017)
Well worth watching
Stumbled across this on Amazon and was glad that I did.
This is a howl out laughing series with so many aspects of Loudermilk's behaviour that will resonate with many people.
Workin' Moms (2017)
Absolutely hilarious
Discovered this show and decided to 'blitz' it over a few weekends. Simply brilliant and would highly recommend.
Waiting in anticipation for the new series.
Lucifer: Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam (2021)
Not a fan
Disappointed with this episode as not a fan of musicals and this one was particularly poor.
Misfits (2009)
Series 1-3 only
1 - 3 were absolutely brilliant, however show loses itself in subsequent series. So much so, that I gave up as script and new cast members were poor which is such a shame given the high quality of the previous episodes.
Norsemen (2016)
Brilliant comedy
Really enjoyed watching the series.
Amazing that it was simultaneously filmed in Norwegian and English to cater for both language speakers. Pity that it had to end.
The Family Business (2018)
Oh dear!
Saw this advertised on BET during an overseas stay so thought that I'd check it out as it isn't being shown in the UK. I can see why.
This show is simply terrible which is disappointing considering some of the actors featured. The acting is poor and the storyline is awful.
I'd like to know how this has an overall rating of 6.1 Perhaps they've employed bots to boost the ratings.
I've given a rating of two stars because of the cars and locations otherwise it's not worthy of any stars.
Ava (2020)
Not very good
Great cast of actors unfortunately they now have to live with the fact that they took part in this cluster**** of a film.
Little Fires Everywhere (2020)
A slow burner
But definitely worth watching with some top class acting.
Craig Ross Jr.'s Monogamy (2018)
Fictitious reviews
There is no way on earth that these reviews are genuine. This is particular poor with questionable acting, filming and sound quality.
I persevered with this series to see whether it merited the numerous10 scores given by so many and can only deduce that these were made by people associated with the filming.
I have given a score of two because the properties where it was film were nice and the concept of the show was promising, however it failed to deliver.
Iron Fist (2017)
Shockingly poor.
Really wanted to like this but the acting is so wooden and the fight scenes particularly amateurish.
I gave two stars purely on the basis on effort made by some of the cast members learning martial arts for their role.
What/If (2019)
Unbelievably poor
I continued to watch as I thought that it might improve.
It didn't!
