Barbie (2023)
Preaching not required...
I thought the first half of the movie was quite humorous, taking the Mickey out of the whole Barbie phenomenon that it is.
Great colour and cinematography and I even laughed in some parts. Then something strange happened about half way through: it got all serious and made Ken a baddie and then decided to preach to us about the injustices that women have endured (which I agree to be true, but didn't fit where I thought this movie was going).
Not quite sure who this movie was intended for, but I walked out disappointed. The males all ended up being either bad or stupid, or both. Not sure if this is a film that the great Will Ferrell can hold his head up high for as his role served very little purpose.
The acting and cinematography saved it.
The Crown: Queen Victoria Syndrome (2022)
Character casting choices questionable
For me, the casting choices of the Queen, Charles and Diana have distracted me from fully immersing myself into this season so far. Charles, in particular comes across as being too suave, and the Diana feels almost as though the directors are making a mockery of her. They are detracting from the storyline. Diana's height compared to Charles is also a distraction, and was particularly noticeable during their argument scene on the boat. The concerns with casting was never an issue in previous seasons where the actors cast in those roles were convincing.. I am hoping as this season progresses, this will become less of an issue.
Lucifer: Partners 'Til the End (2021)
I don't buy it
This season was full of plot holes...
I also find it interesting that Chloe is always referred to as a great mother, yet she hardly spends any time at all with Trixie. Who is looking after her??! Especially as Maze is all locked up and married, and Dan is dead...
And as for Lucifer's decision to reside in Hell to fulfil his "calling", never to return AT ALL to his Earth family, whom he loves so dearly, and especially when we are told that time in Hell is so much quicker than on Earth, and the new God finds time to make the occasional visit.
Having said all this, there were some nice moments dotted towards the end.
Loved the series, but it's probably a good thing it's ended where it has.
Sophie: A Murder in West Cork (2021)
Podcast was more interesting
I listened to the podcast of this murder case a few months back, so was compelled to watch this. I found that the podcast has far more detail on the case, and the investigations that took place, so was surprised to see that much of this was not included. Whilst I liked seeing images and videos of some of the main people involved with the case, I felt that it was padded out somewhat and lacked some detail.
I recommend listening the West Cork podcast if you're interested in hearing more of what went on as part of the botched investigations.
RuPaul's Drag Race: Bring Back My Queens! (2019)
Disappointing
This episode felt like it highlighted who the favourites were, rather than who were the best/worst Queens.
Silky should have been eliminated along with Nina, as her lip sync performance was awful. She's not an all round polished performer and appears to be still in the competition for entertainment purposes.
