Life on Our Planet (2023)
It's interesting but not overwhelming
My plus points are
- the CGI is really great
- it's easy to understand also for people who are interested but not so deep into this subject.
My one big problem with the series is, it is mostly from the predator and prey perspective. That explains nothing about the species, extinct or not, and is just for sensation.
My other problem is that it jumps too much between then and now within one episode. Often the connection made between extinct species and still existing species were not clear enough to me.
Also the music was much too "heroic" in my opinion. A little less big orchestra and more decent orchestration would have been more.
Midtsommernatt (2024)
Another very worth to watch Scandi production
Being a big fan of all kinds of Scandi productions and Amalia Holm as well I really enjoyed episodes 1-4 of "Midsummer Night". But the last episode kind of ruined it for me because of the enforced harmony at the end. After all what happened that was far from believable.
The visuals of "Midsummer Night" are stunning, the cast in parts stellar, esp. Pernille August, Dennis Storhoi and said Amalia Holm, who certainly could have more played free with a stronger acting partner. All in all "Midsummer Night" is worth to watch, touching a lot of questions about what you really want to do with your life. Wish they had had more time to enfold the story instead of 30 minutes per episode.
I'd love to give them 10/10, but had to lower my rating because of the last episode.
Wynonna Earp (2016)
One of my all-time favorite No 1 TV shows
I came across "Wynonna Earp" in September this year. At first a demon fighting heiress of the legendary Wyatt Earp seemed a bit weird to me, but after episode 3 of season one they had me. I was simply gripped by the strong female characters. The storytelling, which is mainly above average to excellent, grows from simply demon hunting into a lot of personal issues, which among other things cover sisterhood, loyal friendship, firmly supporting each other, not to forget a LGBTIQ* representation in particular which I have never seen in a TV show so far. The cast is excellent and always gets to the heart of it. Ok, the CGI is far from being good, but it does not really matter as the show itself takes these parts not so seriously. I was delighted to learn that the show was renewed for a fourth season and I am now eagerly awaiting the first 6 episodes of season four. If you had not seen this show so far, give it a try. It will not disappoint you.
