It's one of my favorite movie among the low rated collection. The movie touched my soul so book adaptation is left out by me. The movie is special for me. I think about it, watch it whenever I needed to get in touch with western "mystical- spiritual " world. This movie just never fails. Well done Mr Ron Howard but...
The film has some flaws like in the beginning - the murder scene. The film changes its tone in some parts rushes in some and then progress steadily in some. Nevertheless the story is good and thrill is well maintained throughout the film. A completely different perspective of grail quest is shown, imbibing the catholic flavor and the mythical ideas. The film is bold enough to depict some issues like sects believing in blood-shed, self molestations etc. The film grips the attention by showcasing the historical scenarios and then debates that follows, the intellectual discussion and finally the depiction of innocent thoughts prevailing through the faith. Some people comprising both inside ad outside the faith fails to grasp the coded messages and the innocence of faithfuls. Only the people of light could decode it to find the knowledge. Code is for the people of light not for all. That's an impressive idea within the realm of faith.
The film also has a serene narration, which ofcourse is necessary to paint the scenarios of catholic faith. The relation of Langdon and Sophie is also decent in that line. The antagony was unpredictable for me. I never guessed it. The BGM, the performances and the story all were good. The film very cleverly characterizes the people painting the reality of them in the arena of religion and faith. It is actually faith that we all need and politics plays its role in the name of faith, corrupting the minds of both young and aged. Finally the film ends in victory of the faith and faithfuls. The climax too is well justified, open to countless speculations, perhaps motivates viewers to research themselves. I really wanted some of those already mentioned flaws to have been corrected, otherwise it would have been a masterpiece.
I would highly recommend this to anyone with spiritual interest. It is like an attempt to speak in favor of apocryphal thoughts. For scholars it is must watch. Its a kind of classic in Christian apocrypha and this topic is not for all. Only scholars would understand it. For all its merits and flaws it's a 77/100.
