Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Ruined by inconsistent/flawed plot
The big battle starts, the water tribe foaming at the mouth, saying the "sky people" - referring to the Humans - "must die."
The outcast tulkun turns the tide of the fight, or one would have thought until you realize that the whale has basically done everything, the tribe and family is left to mop up, but the water tribe is completely missing so Jake and his wife are their fighting everyone so it's suddenly a struggle rather than a happy feeling, profound victory.
Who allowed this plot to even happen! Even just adding a splinter group in the tribe that helps with the fight, the whale getting sweet revenge and turning the tide could still happen, then the splinter group and Jake+wife+kids could still do the same thing and you won't have this nagging feeling by the viewer that massive army just disappeared.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
The comedy was hit and miss, the cinematics were good, the story was not special
I've given this 8/10, just from to be on the safe side, I'll mention that from my title you'd think I did not like it, but I did. It's a fun and enjoying movie to watch, wouldn't say appropriate for a child, but teenager, sure.
The comedy between the two main characters were a hit and miss, some golden laughable moments, but some I'd just wondered if they did some retakes or changed it up a little bit would have worked. I guess I'm talking about some of the old cliche one liners.
The story, a nice adventure, something that kept me enjoying as almost all of it. Cinematics, really nice twists at being serious and adding comedy, to me making it refreshing to watch. If the story was a bit bold, they'd probably get incredible reviews. Ultimately it feel like what a relaxing D&D board game is meant to feel like, at least to an outsider. I'm sure some would argue that it wasn't serious enough, maybe lacking an epic adventure vibe, but there's probably plenty of vibes a D&D session can produce.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010)
Could have been better.
Bad casting, aside from Nicolas Cage and Toby Kebbell. I think they did well with what they had. Jay Baruchel was just bad and not suited for the role. The rest really didn't have much to be noticed enough.
Script feels rushed and plot seems to not have been properly thought through. The characters aside from Balthazar and Dave lack any sort of attachment to the movie. Found it distracting when Dave's friend coming to help then disappearing, near the end of the movie, when he was not relative to the movie at all other than his introduction. You could might as well call Iron Man.
Though I did think Toby Kebbell character; Drake Stone was quite good. We get the sense that he's adapted to the world around him and just about settled into the world, till the main villain returns, he sort of shows resentment of stopping his lifestyle, but is forced to follow orders. All of this is done, not by his lines, but only by his expressions and emotions.
The useless sub-romantic-plot and the cheesy clichés stuff aside, it was an OK movie, but failed short due to its glaring flaws.
