The Bear (2022)
How is this considered a comedy???
This is an example of the inexplicable Emmy process that shut out the final season of This Is Us but can allow this show to win 10 Emmy's for comedy categories. This IS NOT A COMEDY by any stretch of the imagination !!!! It is a drama plain and simple. As a drama it is pretty good, not on a Succession level, but okay. It's not hard to write dialogue when every other line is: yes chef, no chef, yes chef, corner, behind, hands etc. Also add loving, long shots of food being chopped and prepared and you have an Emmy winning OUTSTANDING COMEDY !!! A very disappointing show and a great example of how hype can influence accolades.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
This ain't a masterpiece
The worst example of science fiction I have ever been subjected to. Special effects are great for their time and the musical score is excellent. The source material is good but poorly executed on film. The concept of artificial intelligence run amok is even more timely today than it ever was in the late 1960's. But the film overall is a boring entertainment. And it ending sequence tries to be profound and visually stunning but looks like a kid's kaleidoscope and leads nowhere. If the script was more well thought out this could've been a masterpiece. Kubrick made many masterpieces but this ain't one of them.
A Visit to Santa (1963)
Wooooof
This is a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY BAD little short !!!
It look like a terrible chamber of commerce or department store promotional film. Made with a super 8 camera and the worst of homemade techniques. The narration is AWFUL!!! It's so bad it's like a train wreck and you can't look away from it for a second. I hate to say it but some parts of it are so bad they are good and HILARIOUS !!! I particularly love Santa at the North Pole in his sunken living room and recliner !!!! But the BEST part was the narrator saying in all seriousness "all dolls must have a head as well as a body" !!!!!! This terrible entertainment is a real dog !!! Wooooof.
Gojira -1.0 (2023)
Excellent homage to the original
This is the best "monster" movie I have ever seen. The story is well conceived and structured. The characters are very well draw and you really care about their character arcs. The post war Japan setting illustrates the cost of war and its toll on humanity. The depiction of Godzilla from beginning to end is well thought out and his design is beautifully executed. ( The way he moves on land is a great reminder of the original story special effects) The cinematography is beautiful as well as the set direction. Its use of cgi to render realistic scenes is absolutely on point. I recommend this movie to everyone and even those who doubtful about these kinds of movies will be pleasantly surprised by its quality. 10 out of 10.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)
I watch it every year !!!!
This is the best of all the Christmas special's. It has everything, heart, soul and a warm nostalgic feel for what Christmas is all about. It is my furthest back television memory and still holds up today. I have watched it every year of my life and it is my signpost that it's time to get ready for Christmas!!! The quaint animation and great character voices are perfect. The songs are wonderful. Burl Ives Snowman is a genius move for a narrator. If you're not in a Christmas state of mind by the end of this gem YOU ARE THE GRINCH !!!! (Another classic) So watch and enjoy and as Burl Ives says " Have A Holly Jolly Christmas !!!!"
They Cloned Tyrone (2023)
A Great satire that hits close to Home
This movie evokes the splendid Soul Cinema Eta ( formerly known as Black Exploitation) and slivers of truth that are worrisome in Black American life. Well written and acted as well as extremely entertaining. The storyline brushes up against various stereotypes and tropes in the black community that are very pervasive. The way that music, food, hair care, institutions and neighborhood characters are used to show how integral they cold be to any conspiracy is masterful. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and wish Netflix and other studios would keep encouraging and developing new fresh material like this. A great thought provoking sci fi and reality based romp.
I Love Lucy: The Ricardos Visit Cuba (1956)
Little Ricky on Conga Drum
This episode is fine but really takes off at the finale when Ricky plays Baba Loo with Little Ricky !!! The kid playing Little Ricky is so wonderful singing along with Desi Arnaz and Desi really delivers on his conga playing!!! Sometimes the smallest of tv moments are the most memorable and iconic.
The Lucy Show: Lucy the Babysitter (1967)
Terrible
Nadir of a very bad series ....should have ended as a series years before this tired episode was ever dreamed up...Lucy without Ricky is like a day without sunshine.
Mr. Lucky (1943)
Love Mr.Lucky
This is my favorite Cary Grant movie ....Grant is edgy and funny.... Lorraine Day is luminous....great wartime atmosphere...hers to the Britney Marlin ...and keep a roll of dimes in your pocket just in case.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Excellent Series
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.was an excellent series ...thought provoking and a very timely meditation on race, true heroism, and America.
Primal (2019)
Flintstones rated PG13
Fred did it better....don't get all the fuss...weak animation and stories.
The Godfather Part II (1974)
The Greatest Film Ever Made
No superlative can truly capture the greatness of this film...it is perfect in every aspect....acting, directing, set design, cinematography, screen play, etc. A spectacular achievement that has never been surpassed in almost 50 years
The Good Place (2016)
Wizard of Odds
Great reworking of the Wizard of OZ !!!! Elenor is Dorothy, Jason is the Scarecrow, Tahani is the Tin Man, and Chidi is the Cowardly Lion, Michael is The Wizard. The philosophical quest is a grand teaching tool pointing to the ultimate Good Place (Home) and finding your inner happiness was always within you !!!
Da 5 Bloods (2020)
Treasure of Sierra Vietnam
This film has its moments but is so derivative of other classics it detracts from what could have been....
