The Idol (2023)
Unsettling for shock value only
This is a train wreck of an unsettling show. I want it to take a turn and become a quality and moving series, but I'm at episode 4 now and it's still rather disgusting. The sex is simply for shock value. The BDSM is as well. The character that The Weeknd plays is truly despicable. I'm sad that those who chose to be on this show did so. I keep hoping that an interesting story will come forth.....I know nothing about the music industry so it's insightful in that manner but the humanity or lack of it in this show is tanking it for me. I feel like I kinda need an anti-drop session following each episode. I really do hate The Weeknd as a person after this. I really didn't like him before but now, I effing hate him.
Moonfall (2022)
The worst movie ever
OMG this movie is even worse than The Room. What in the effing eff. WHO in the bloody freaking universe gave this movie a green light? Literally getting worse with every single line. I mean, if this was a parody then it would be funny! Why o why did the actors agree to this? So many questions I have. But I am just too dumbfounded that this movie actually exists. I can't even fathom that NASA allowed their name to be used anywhere near this movie. Poor Halle Berry. And Patrick whatever his name is. Almost 2 hours of the worst-one liners ever uttered. I hope the writers are now unemployed. Or graduated to 5th grade. At least.
Do Revenge (2022)
This was fun (surprisingly)
So, I'm old enough to have watched Clueless when it came out. And it's precedent, The Heathers. The GOAT. And then, SMG?!!! The CI reference isn't lost me, but you gotta be a certain age to get it. It was also a classic. And I mostly picked this movie late tonight knowing I could make it stop with the flick of my remote if it sucked. But this was surprisingly fun. It was smartly done. And PLOT TWIST! That elevated it. Poignant. VERY poignant. And even as I write this yet ANOTHER plot twist! And I authentically laughed out loud more than twice. And the soundtrack was fun + I was a Peace Corps volunteer so loved the shout out. And when I googled a little on the movie I learned some interesting history. So for once, I didn't ruin my own Saturday night by picking a crappy movie yet again. Yay me.
The Sandman (2022)
At first was a 9, but then.....
Patton Oswalt as a talking raven ruined it. I am soooooo sad. Pilot was great, EP 2 not bad, but geezus an effing talking raven? UGH. I've been anticipating this show for months. I didn't read the graphic novel. Tom Sturridge was transformed for the role - his voice is fascinating. It's becoming an odd mish-mash of humor and drama/fantasy. Kinda wish it would just stay drama/fantasy.
Intrusion (2021)
Bad choice
I am so sad Freida Pinto chose to do this film. I am even more sad that I chose to watch it. It's only redeeming quality was the scenery. I recognize where parts of it was filmed.
Thriller? Hardly.
The Batman (2022)
Changed forever
This was outstanding. Gone is the hokey heroism. Gone is the wowing gadgetry. Gone is the unrealistic fight scenes. And thank god gone is the cheesy lines and humor. Jeffrey Wright is a TERRIFIC and better depiction of Jim Gordon. Colin Farrell - completely unrecognizable. Paul Dano - a great villian - not overplayed. It was GREAT. Already looking forward to the next.
Project Power (2020)
Underrated
This was a well done freaky ass film. I came for JGL, and left loving Dominque Fishback. Wow. She is a pure powerhouse. I hope that other sci-fi heads love this as much as it needs to be loved.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Genius. Timely and Perfect.
I am so glad someone made this film. Absolutely hilarious - and what a line up. All fully in on the satire and committed to the storyline. This is almost as surprisingly fun as the Dumpster Fire 2020 mockumentary that came out last year this time. Loved it!
2149: The Aftermath (2016)
Pretty unwatchable
I'm sad Molly Parker got caught up in this slop. I'm all about 100% dystopian films, but this is really bad. The script I think was written by a alien child who has never had any human interaction. The lead was better when he didn't speak. So one star is for Molly Parker and the other star is for learning new typing abbreviations. And the last star is for being blissfully short.
Infinite (2021)
Could have been cool....
The only quality factor of this movie was Chiwetel Ejiofor. Mark Whalberg delivered nothing but cliche one liners and Sophia Carson was affected and squinted the whole time to try to cover up really bad acting. Jason Mantzoukas is always a good time, but even he was reigned in. Helicopters, motorcycles, hot cars, flashy clothes....all of it so cliche. Snort.
Cherry (2021)
Incredibly sincere
Tom Holland was stunning in this. He demonstrated incredible scope and depth. This was so well done - and so on-point. But it wasn't over done. He and ALL the characters conveyed so well. I am so impressed.
Raised by Wolves (2020)
Disjointed and odd
I watched the whole series and I am a sci-fi dystopian space story lover. And I had high hopes for this. But as I watched it never gelled, never came together. And sadly Travis Fimmel reverting to his weird Vikings accent made it worse. It had some great elements and I will admit I was compelled to watch to the end because I was curious. But every episode was "WTF" and not the good Ridley Scott kind of WTF.
The Lie (2018)
Drivel, absolute drivel
I am physically annoyed by the teenager in this. To the point that I do not want to finish the story. I will, but it is going to be painful. I am making comparisons to "Defending Jacob", where the acting was superb.
and now that I've finished it, I am even more upset about having wasted an evening.
The Old Guard (2020)
All star cast, B writing
Terrible music, cliche lines. The rock star line up didn't deserve this.
365 dni (2020)
A gift to my eyes
I really don't care about the quality of the acting. It's was visually stunning in every sense- bodies, scenery, luxury homes, clothes, more bodies and of course, Italy. It was fun and hot and different. Who cares if it won't win awards??? I've had enough to THINK about this year - my poor eyes needed something to just drink in without the use of my brain.
October Faction (2020)
Half unwatchable
I can handle the story line and the some of the adult actors, but the daughter and son are unwatchable. JCMacKenzie's dialogue is funny, and I've always liked Tamara Taylor but the rest of the dialogue is really awful!!!!! And I'm on episode 9. "Turns out I can see the future and I want you in it" 🙄🙄🙄🙄 Yes, teens wrote this script.
