Delgo (2008)
Enjoyable
We went and saw this opening weekend for the last show of the evening. We were the only ones in the theater. This disappointed me, since Delgo was really a fun film to watch. There were no surprises and there were a few moments that had me rolling my eyes. But over all we had a great time. My two year kept getting the alien races confused with real animals as they made the same sounds (ribbits and moos). This film was well animated, well voiced, and well scripted. I would have enjoyed this movie without having a child with me. Go see this film. It deserves to at least earn back the cost of making this film. Delgo was very promising. I'd like to see more from this production company.
The Fountain (2006)
Beautiful Movie
When my husband and I went to see this movie, I noticed that there were three different types of movie goers. First, were the people who plain didn't get it. They turned to their friends after the movie and said "Wait a minute, what was the deal with the guy and that tree?" and similarly annoying questions. Second, were the people who walked out. They didn't get either. The difference is that they were impatient, probably thinking something like "Ugh, this is so boring! When are they gonna blow something up?" At least they were nice enough to be quiet as they left. Then, there were the people like my husband and I. We may not have understood the movie perfectly (who can after only one viewing) but we were awestruck by the beauty and intelligence of this film. This is one of my favorite movies now (and believe you me, I am not one of those people who goes to see movies like Shop Girl and Little Miss Sunshine and calls herself enlightened and smarter than everyone else.) I am not going into what the movie is about because I want people who haven't seen this movie yet to be able to read this review and still go, see this film, and not have it ruined for them. Ignore all those people who call this movie "artsy, fartsy crap". They are entitled to their opinions just like everyone else. I think that you should see this film, not because I loved it and think that this movie will move you deeply (if you understand it) but because this movie should be given a fair chance. You will either love this movie, hate it, or just plain don't get it. It' worth it to go just on the chance that you may love it. I can't get this movie out of my head and I watched it a week ago. It's a beautifully made, thought provoking movie and you should see it. Please disregard everything you've heard about this movie (including this review), put your hands over your ears and sing "LA, LA, LA" at the top of your lungs if someone tries to tell you about it, and go watch it.
