Do-ga-ni (2011)
Painful to watch
My review is more of an emotional rant so keep that in mind if you read it.
Watching this movie hurt me so much but no matter how much I tried I just couldn't stop. I had to finish it. I needed a dose of reality to be reminded of how this world worked again. If this wasn't based on a true story it most probably wouldn't hurt me that much but the thing is; it really did happen. Real children had to go through a hell like that, they cried, they screamed, their hearts struck by anguish, they were miserable and yet nobody listened to them, the people who tortured them never got what they deserved. It happened. This happened. And it rips my heart apart. Most of the time I was either crying or screaming at the screen wishing I had some magical hands that could penetrate it to grab those monsters; not that that would be helpful or anything but I just had this tremendous urge to just hurt those people (not the actors obviously). But anyways, the movie ended and a part of me just died with that kid who had to strive for justice and avenge brother on his own. I know just a little more now about the ugliness of the human nature, and also about it's beauty.
It goes without saying that the execution was brilliant. The actors and the atmosphere; I felt like i was connected with them somehow. I definitely wouldn't watch it again though. It'd be too much for me to bear.
Only You (1994)
Only You!!
I don't really care what the others say, this is literally one of my top favorite romance movies ever, a classic for me. The other two being pride and prejudice and memoirs of a geisha.
What I like about this movie is that it's so dreamy, the acting is good and I've literally been crushing on Peter Wright even after 9 years since I first watched this movie. It is funny, heartfelt and most importantly, extremely romantic. I couldn't keep still in my seat while watching it even though I know every moment of it. I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea but if you're in a mood for a simple and refreshing love story then make sure you don't miss this one.
Glass (2019)
This movie is very unique
If you're looking for some marvel-like superhero movie filled with action and fighting and adrenaline then this is not for you. This is a work of art, it is smart, it is brilliant and it is great. It is different and yet it doesn't strive to be because it just is. And just give James McAvoy an Oscar already for pulling the role off so so beautifully!! (I know he didn't though which is totally unfair.)
Kono sekai no katasumi ni (2016)
A sweet tragic and lovely historical slice-of-live anime movie
Now as there are many japanese or non-japanese movies about the world war two, most of them are focused on the affected areas by the bombs. But this one was wasn't entirely focused on that. This movie talks about the story of a woman (Suzu) from Hiroshima, who gets married and then moves away. The story follows her as she lives her daily life in a corner of this world that is full of war and despair and how the things get worse day by day. It talks about the struggle that these people have to go through, and all the pain they are to endure.
After watching this movie now i can say that i might understand a little bit more the feelings of the people and what they had to go through at that time. Of course, we can never know how much it hurt to live like that, but we could at least imagine. Imagine not being able to hold the hand of someone whom you love, imagine not being able to hear the one you love or see them again, or not being able to hug them even though you want to.
After losing someone important to her and also losing her hand she had to go through much pain, she couldn't draw any longer and what for? Humans. Yes, because of some "humans" she had to let go of many things, and this is only one person, now imagine millions of people, each one of them losing at least one thing that cannot be compensated. That's harsh. And also unacceptable.
This movie made me realize again how filthy we humans are.
The most affectionate moment in the entire movie for me was when that little girl who lost her mother got happy when she saw Suzu, imagine that little child who had to go through something like that, it's not fair. But we can also see that Suzu losing her hand wasn't entirely meaningless. Sometimes some things happen that we might never know the good in them. And this was kind of one of those things. The little girl might have never approached Suzu if she hadn't lost her arm and reminded her of her mother and she would probably die out there. But she got saved and it was like god has sent them back the little girl that they had lost.
It was a very good movie in general and that art was also nice and I really loved it, i also don't mind watching it again.
The Edge of Seventeen (2016)
Very Nice!
I haven't really watched "high school drama" stuff in a while so i might be exaggerating a little bit but this movie was one of the greatest teen movies I've seen till now! Well i wasn't really expecting too much at the beginning and i thought it's gonna be kinda boring but it WASN'! It was a very heartwarming movie.. I could relate with almost all her problems.. those stuff about hating the way i look or i speak, i struggled with that for a really long time and seeing her get over her problems..well.. being a "teen" isn't all that fun at all and this movie proves it. And most of all I laughed too hard! Can't remember the last time a movie made me laugh this much. I would definitely watch this movie again. I really recommend this movie, you'll have a good time watching it.
Karafuru (2010)
It was beautiful
First of all, the art wasn't anything special rather it was very plain but it gave the story a nice touch. The story was about a soul who had to find out his/her sin. I kind of expected a very different ending but that one was a real twist and i liked it. I have always thought of suicide as a great sin and you don't have to believe in god or angels to think that way. Trying to end your life is never going to make things better, even if you die ;) you have to try to find beauty in your life no matter how many hardships you encounter. This movie will surely show you a beautiful perspective of life and people.
Death Note (2017)
I didn't like it :)
Okay so the death note movie was horrible because it reminded me of final destination and because i spent half of the movie wondering where i saw that guy to remember that he was the guy who played the role of the *uselessiest character in the history of movies in the film paper towns (which i hated; both the movie and characters) and the guy who played L's role whose Japanese to his taste in sweets made me cringe till the end so if there's one thing this Netflix movie succeeded at was to remind me of the worst movies i have seen and at the end it became one of them. needless to say, Ryuk was the ONLY character that pleased me and he shall always remain as my favorite character in death note. Bravo Netflix!
