Romeo Is Bleeding (1993)
Exciting Thriller
I was looking at blurays/dvds at Carrefour a few days ago (European version of Walmart) and I saw the DVD of Romeo Is Bleeding in the cheap DVD section. Generally these are crap films which nobody buys. It was 5.99 TL (Turkish liras). I looked at the back cover and saw that Gary Oldman, whom I think is one of the most underrated actors ever, starred in the film. I consider him to be very talented. I bought the film thinking it might be good and it was not only good, it was actually amazing. The cinematography was beautiful, Oldman and Olin were very good in their roles, the rest of the cast was also good though I think James Cromwell could have a bigger part. The storyline was good and I was not bored for a second, I was interested in what was going to happen next throughout the movie so the pacing was well adjusted.
The film is a film noir set in the 90s with a sort of New York we have not seen before. Some people might claim the psycho woman character was unrealistic but I do not think so, many criminals are not like normal people, and she's a prime example.
In short, this is one of the most unknown great films that can be bought for a low price. It is underrated and not known by many people, but it is still a classic crime thriller.
Hot Fuzz (2007)
The Best Movie I've seen in 2007
I went to the cinema with expectations. However I didn't really think it'd be better than Shaun of the Dead because it was a masterpiece and masterpieces by the same director and/or actors only come once in a decade. I knew it was gonna be fun though.
From the first moment of the movie, the story grabbed my attention. This movie is not just a comedy movie with some action elements, but it is more like a true hybrid of comedy and action genres. You do laugh a lot, and at the same time you get excited by action scenes. unlike shaun of the dead which was a pure comedy which didn't scare me at all ( and it didn't intend to ) this movie is as about action as it is about comedy.
In conclusion, i hold the view that everyone must see this masterpiece. Cause you'll wanna see it again and again...
Babam ve Oglum (2005)
Amazing movie
I've never really been a fan of Turkish movies.I always thought they weren't good enough, but I knew that some good movies were done in recent years. And I heard everyone talking about this movie, low budget but a great movie they said.I wanted to see it myself, and so i did.
The movie is really great. It tells us feelings, family, joy, laughter, sorrow, grief...It tells us life, but in a very sad way.I'm a cold blooded person, i cry rarely and never in public.I didn't cry watching this movie, but I really tried hard not to.The movie, scenes are incredible and also the music is wonderful.
Acting is very very good.Cetin Tekindor (grandfather) is the best in my opinion. He's one of the best actors in Turkey, but I think he did his best job in this movie. He talks Aegean Turkish accent perfectly.
Cagan Irmak, director of the movie did an outstanding job.I want to congratulate him for this masterpiece.
