See (2019)
The show has gotten too dark, visually.
This show seems to be following many new trends in cinematography that record the video way too underlit. Maybe the cinematographers or directors are going for a "feel", but it's really a disservice to the viewers.
I've adjusted my TV every way I can think of, but the best I can get for all the nighttime scenes is a washed out set of shadows. It's getting tiring on my eyes and I find myself trying so hard to figure out what's going on that I miss out on the story itself.
I shouldn't have to go out and buy a thousand dollar TV set just because the producers want to feel like they're all artsy. The show itself is pretty good, what I can make out, anyway. But I want to see "See".
The Terminal List (2022)
Great story and acting - Horrible videography
Chris Pratt is a great choice for the lead. It's very different from his somewhat comedic role in Guardians of the Galaxy, and he pulls it off.
The story is suspenseful and well-paced. My wife and I were hooked from the beginning.
The biggest problem is their choice of making all the video so darned dark. Even the scenes that take place in the light are dark, but the actual dark scenes are difficult to watch. I've tried all sorts of picture settings, but the best I can get is a lousy, dark, picture. If the directors are trying to get artsy, then they need to remember few viewers have $3000 TVs (if that even helps). And that's the main reason for seven stars vs nine, or even ten.
9-1-1: Lone Star: Friends with Benefits (2021)
Oh well - Soap opera dama is taking over
We started watching both 911's because of the emergencies and the sometimes clever, often heroic, efforts to perform the rescues. You know they've got to have some relationship type of drama, but the first season of each was more about the rescues. This latest episode had two short and light rescues that seemed like they were in there because of the show's title. Everything else was soap opera.
Toon in with Me (2021)
Just play the toons already!
I like the old classic cartoons from my childhood. It would be great if this show actually played some of them, or at least more than a few, during the hour-long show. The non-cartoon "comedy" show is lame and takes up valuable toon time.
Altered Carbon (2018)
Season 2 a big disappointment
I was really looking forward to Season 2, as I loved Season 1. I've only watched the first two episodes, and that's about it. I might have gone a couple more, but the overwhelming (or maybe "underwhelming"?) reviews so far are telling me the rest of this season isn't going to get better.
First, why are pretty much all the scenes dark? Not "dark", as in a dark mood or dark story, but the lighting is too dark. Even the scenes that are taking place in well-lit areas, like the Meths' areas, are just dark. Is this some artsy new trend? Well, ..., stop it.
Season 1 played much more with re-skinning. It was fun to see what the Meths could do with all their money. The characters were clever. Kovacs was a 3-D character. Season 2 (so far and from what I've read) is mostly about how brutal the characters are. Kovacs is 1-D, mainly on a quest to find his lost love and shredding all who get in the way. The Wedge is thrashing all in the way in their quest to get Kovacs.
Season 2 is just not fun. Thanks to the other reviewers for giving me what I need to prevent wasting more time on this. There's lots of good sci-fi out there that I'd rather spend my time with. I gave this three stars because of the special effects, at least the ones I can see.
