Forrest Gump (1994)
Entertaining but..
Overall, this is well crafted Hollywood movie; above par acting, a sense of humor, great soundtrack with a "seemingly" kind heart.
On the other hand, the movie has an agenda to glorify American conservatism by belittling the hippy and black movements and idealizing moderate conservatism above other views.
Watch with caution!
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
A cult horror movie only to be admired by the few
This movie can be called artsy of even avand-garde as far as horror movies can go. It crumbles all the cliches of the genre, adding a great atmospheric soundtrack and more than decent acting by all cast, proving Rob Zombie is a thoroughbred director similar to his musicianship.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Definitely overrated for some obscure reason
Here is why I think this movie is overrated:
- The characters are unconvincing. Given that they all have an eye for exploiting other people for money, how did they become so poor in the first place, unless there was some kind of sudden divine inspiration? And is uncouth behavior all the working class would like to achieve once given the opportunity to become rich?
- Although the movie seems to be compassionate with the poor as a first impression, it does the au contraire from a class perspective. The naive and gullible rich are defrauded by the covetous poor! Shouldn't be like, the rich are covetous so they have become rich?
- The acting is mediocre if not bad compared to other Korean movies such as Handmaiden or 3-iron.
Midsommar (2019)
Distinctive and highly visual
This movie proves its difference from its peers by its unique setting, profound concept and wonderful visualization. Only downside is the inconclusive acting of the main characters although this can not be said for the side acting (i.e. the members of the cult) as they do a pretty decent job. One of the good movies of 2019.
Vivarium (2019)
Irritating but somehow in an enjoyable way
Although not a must-see, this movie has its merits with regard to the claustrophobic ambiance and usage of metaphors. Not bad!
Ah-ga-ssi (2016)
Only one word: EPIC!
Although absent noble-mindedness, this is pure, sophisticated art for the sake of art. A true classic.
Jîn (2013)
Bold and beautiful
This movie can share the title of "Reha Erdem's masterpiece" with Kosmos. However, this precedes Kosmos by daring to touch on a sensitive political element in Turkey and adding a strongly humanitarian dimension to its well-crafted cinematography. Reha Erdem proves himself as arguably the best contemporary Turkish director with this movie.
I See You (2019)
Unexpectedly entertaining
I thought I was going to be watching a b movie/stupid slasher and turn off the movie before the half but it was surprisingly catchy and well crafted. The way it initially gives the impression that it is a horror movie with supernatural elements steadily turns into a crime movie where the culprit is the one least expected, also criticizing and proving that the very people society trust are somehow the most untrustable indeed.
The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)
Even not good enough for total idiots!
One of the worst samples of a genre that is even known for its malarkey. Victims taking all possible wrong decisions, stupid cliches, dreadful acting.
Also, please stop making every troubled or "rebellious!" kid wear a Ramones t-shirt in the movies, please. Ramones would have hated that.
The Death of Stalin (2017)
One of the worst movies ever
Don't even waste a minute with this pathetic wanna be satire..
