Wolf Like Me: Episode #2.7 (2023)
Keeping the pack safe
I love how this episode brings the season to a descent conclusion but drops the cliff hanger in the last scene of the show episode. Isla Fisher and Josh Gad are a great duo, and the girl playing the daughter Emma really makes them feel like a true family. I especially like how freely Emma asks Mary questions about her dead husband David, and Mary answers her with heartfelt emotion. There's no envy of the dead but love, respect and acceptance. They don't explain why Mary started to change before it got night when they were escaping the hospital, but I guess the audience is to assume it is due to the birthing stress. I'm just glad the sister-in-law Sara got to help and finally see Mary's secret. Ray drove that ambulance fiercely which made me laugh. It was truly a family affair. I'd definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves action, comedy, and romance.
My Father's Will (2011)
Keep the expectations low
This movie only gets four stars, because the main character was so attractive. I also like the main actress because she is from Say Anything. Very predictable, so-so acting, but loved the cliche' ending. All the nice people got rewarded, and even the mean people were given a break. The film was not put together very well and definitely needed more backstory and depth to flush out the secondary characters, and even the main characters. I enjoyed seeing the lady from Rocky, Talia Shire, as the mother. It was a well-meaning storyline, but I would never recommend it, unless someone just wanted to see a kind, gorgeous Italian man on the screen for an hour and a half.
Spy Kids: Armageddon (2023)
Choice good/honesty not evil/cheating
I think this would be a great family film to watch with your kids to teach the lesson that honesty and truth will beat cheating and lies any day. It is a fantasy film but is trying to send a positive message instead of perpetuating hate and evil. I love both the actors who play the parents. Zachery Levi has been a favorite of mine ever since Chuck. (As a matter of fact I have all 5 seasons of Chuck on dvd), and Gina Rodriguez I fell in love with on the newer show Not Dead Yet. The kids did a really good job, too, and are just cute. The bad guy was a little silly, but, again, this is a kid's movie so you don't want too dark of a bad guy character. The theme trying to be sent is one all adults and kids need to embrace. Love overcomes hate every time! Give it a watch and just sit back and enjoy the fun.
Renfield (2023)
Reminds me of Cocaine Bear... Only BETTER
I love watching all the main actors in this movie. I think they looked like they were all having a good time with the over the top acting, especially Nicolas Cage. I read that he had always wanted to play Dracula, so regardless of other peoples' reviews about how he could've picked a better project than this, if he has always wanted to play this part, I think he did a really good job.
Including the co-dependency and narcissistic angle with a counseling/support group at a church really added to flush out this story and gave depth to the main character of Rienfield, in my opinion.
Of course, the blood and gore is over the top, but that's what it supposed to be. It's what makes this movie truly funny or as some might say, a dark comedy! I would definitely watch this again with friends who haven't seen it just to increase the laughs in the world. I was laughing through over the last half of it. They made a good couple out of Rebecca, the police woman & Rienfield, and I won't tell the end, but it is a happily ever after story. Those are the best kind of movies to watch especially after a hard, heavy and tiresome day. Laughter truly is the best medicine!
The 355 (2022)
Good action in the end
I thought it started out a little slow, and I almost turned it off, but once you get through the first half hour or so, and the girls join forces, it was an excellent blend of cultures & female force & badassery from all. There were several good twists where you find out that some characters are not what they seemed, and it's unsure who to trust. Chastain & Kruger seemed the most badass till the Asian women joins them near the end, and together they all 5 take down the bad guys. I hated they made it so realistic that some loved ones of the women were killed, but it added to the passion & drive the women displayed in the end. What a great group of eclectic women bringing wonderful acting to this female lead action flick! Good choice for a girl's night out!
Will Trent: A Bad Temper and a Hard Heart (2023)
What a way to close out a season!
I loved this entire episode. The writers did an excellent job, pulling everything together and connecting everyone to each other. Paul, played by the guy from Saved by the Bell, added a little bit of levity and humor in the middle of the show, and I would like to see more of him next season as a reoccurring guest. This one is a tearjerker, especially at the end. I just wish Will had actually hugged Amanda or Amanda had hugged Will, but I guess that would've been too hard and too emotional for both of them and wouldn't have fit their characters' personalities. It was also good to find out the origin of Will's name. I like how they're leaving the episode open to speculation regarding Angie's health status. Overall, Will Trent season one has been a good new drama for TV, and I hope they keep engaging and drawing in the audience next season.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Goodbye (2012)
A great end to a great show
The writers of this series really honored the fans of the show on this last episode by bringing up so many things that happened in the first season. This episode brought the fans back to the beginning. It is wonderful how they finished up the last big mission, including the musical talents of Jeffster, and using how they solved their first mission they were ever on to complete their last mission. It was also good to see Linda Hamilton one more time playing Mary Bartowski and showing Casey chasing after love. They wrapped up all the character storylines in a satisfactory manner. I know some people don't like how it ended, but I think it ends with hope because Sarah is at the beach where Chuck was at the end of the first episode and wants Chuck to tell her a story and then tells him to kiss her. Their love can never be erased. This episode makes me cry every time I've watched it which is about six or seven times.
Will Trent: Bill Black (2023)
So much drama in this episode!
Wow! What an episode! Both storylines were great, but the Angie one was a shocker that I never saw coming and left me shaking for a few minutes after I screamed. I wonder if the show will continue to look into Angie's story because in reality, the young girl involved would need some serious mental health follow up because I don't see how this teenage girl can keep the secret of what really happened without having future mental health problems since secrets bring shame. Anyway, in reality would it have been so bad if they had just all gone with the truth? That girl wouldn't have been jailed since the guy was attacking all 3 females. I don't like that Angie felt the need to lie, & her partner helped further the lie . Will's storyline was action packed as well. Nice to see him without the suit on the majority of the episode. I'm glad I watch this on Hulu in the afternoon after the day it airs because there's no way I could've relaxed enough to go to bed at 11 pm after watching all that...
True Lies: Rival Companions (2023)
Great episode because of Matthew Lillard!
Matthew Lillard, of course, made this episode! I'm glad they finally had a fun interaction between Helen & someone else on the team because she & Matthew had great chemistry during this episode. I don't know why they didn't broaden the Harry Tasker character to understanding that The Wolf is obviously on the spectrum from his discussion with Helen at lunch & bring Harry to understand why Nathan or the Wolf acts the way he does. Not having Harry show empathy was a little one dimensional for his character & made me like him even less now. It wasn't very forward thinking of the writers to not have Harry accept Nathan as he is & realize Nathan's not a "murderous psycho" just because he wants a grilled cheese sandwich after doing his job as an assassin. I've watched a few episodes of this new show & have liked Steve Howey in other shows he's been in (Reba, Stuber) because of his comedic side but don't feel this show is his cup of tea. I like him better in comedies. I agree with another review that Matthew Lillard would be a great edition to this probably going to be cancelled show. Either way, I'd watch another episode if Matthew Lillard returns.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Other Guy (2010)
True love wins out
And I thought it couldn't get any better with the season two finale when Ellie and Devon got married, but this one has it all. Action, suspense, humor, life and death hanging in the balance, and true love! I've watched this episode so many times, and it still makes me cry in the end because true love wins out, and Sarah and Chuck are FINALLY together. When Morgan sees the in-discrepancies in the video tape, I knew it was going to open it up for him to be on the team and then get Casey back on the team. We knew Shaw was going to turn bad after he found out Sarah killed his wife. The humor comes in the end with Casey's extra request when being reinstated. This is a must watch more than once when you want to experience the range of human emotions.
We Have a Ghost (2023)
A good family movie with a ghost mystery in it...
This is a good family movie with a ghost mystery in it. I don't understand the low ratings? It was a little long, but all the content was applicable. The dysfunctional family dynamics, budding teenage romance, action & adventures, and a few scary scenes and some emotional, almost tear jerking, moments are all in this movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone who has teenagers and have parents watch with their kids and discuss the family's situation and how they come together in the end. I really like the actor from "Stranger Things" who plays the ghost. He brings so much depth to the character, and the chemistry between the boy and him just works. Give this one a watch!
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Colonel (2009)
Aces Charles
The "B" story about the Buy More was why I gave a lower rating. The whole episode should've revolved around Chuck finding his father. I really, really liked Casey's comments about their 3 mistakes, the last one being that they didn't ask him for his help. I thought Rourk should've died but didn't realize how crucial he'd be to the last episode of the season. Glad Steven, Chuck and Ellie's dad, got back to Ellie so he could be at the wedding. We should've known the intersect wouldn't be gone for long.... Colonel Casey did good at the end supporting his team instead of burying Sara and Chuck. The best is yet to come.
The Bad Guys (2022)
Great family movie with good twists
Great animated movies can be made by any production company, and this is one of them. This is a great movie for the whole family, and it teaches the importance of friendship and learning what's most important in life, which is love. This movie has everything: action, excitement, romance, tension, twists, drama and loads of fun. I Love Sam Rockwell in any movie, and he is wonderful in this. The rest of the cast are well know and are all equally excellent. The piranha makes me laugh the most! I Will definitely recommend this one to friends and family. You should give it a watch and let it lift your spirits to feel the love and friendship.
Mr. Harrigan's Phone (2022)
Not a horror but highly enjoyable
So many things about this movie I really enjoyed. The music married well with the scenes in which it was played and at times ominous. The setting of this movie where it was filmed was absolutely beautiful and fit perfectly as a character in this movie. The acting was well done between the young actor who played Craig and Donald Sutherland playing Mr. Harrigan. I felt it was more about forming relationships and making connections rather than horror. It had deep and coming of age type aspects as well where at the end, the young man made a choice to let go and move on. It is a good movie to watch when you just need to chill out & watch good acting.
The Rookie: Labor Day (2022)
The end of this episode is why I watch The Rookie!
Pretty intense episode until the end of the show when it takes a turn towards the absurd. I love that action is always happening in this show as well as the ensemble cast of excellent men and women actors, but what Harper does at the end of the show is what makes this show ridiculously funny to me and keeps me coming back! Thanks for the great laugh this produced from me. No way what they showed could happen in real life, but isn't fantasy the reason we watch?! Well, I t's my reason for watching this show. I'm also glad Nolan is going to be training because I like his noble character & the way he portrays his character. Just sit back & enjoy the farce.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Don't spend any money on this
Seeing the Guardians of the Galaxy at the beginning and Chris Hemsworth with his biological daughter at the end were probably the best parts. Russell Crowe looked ridiculous playing Zeus. This movie made very little sense as other reviewers have commented. The jokes fell flat most of the time. The little girl with the empowered bunny was hysterical. This movie was so silly I watched just to see how far they would go. Interesting after credits scene with Jane being welcomed to Valhalla. If I were Thor, I'd be too embarrassed to return... It would be nice to see Chris Hemsworth and his daughter in some other type of movie.
Samaritan (2022)
Typical superhero action film with a lesson on redemption
If you are a Sylvester Stallone fan, give this movie a watch. The young actor who plays Sam portrays his character very convincingly. His boxing skills for which he has awards in real life are displayed frequently throughout the movie. I figured out the twist, revealed at the end, a little over halfway through the movie. If you pay attention, the hints are quite evident but maybe not so obvious. That's what makes the story a redemptive one and this would be a good movie to watch with middle school or teenagers to discuss how you don't have to let your past dictate your present and future. Even though this movie goes deeper than just an action movie, Sylvester Stallone still has it as an action character. He deserves some respect for keeping at it.
Only Murders in the Building: I Know Who Did It (2022)
Near the end brought a tear!
The whole episode was spellbinding and kept you watching, but after the reveal, the conversation between Martin Short & his son brought a tear to my eyes. Whoever wrote that into the show really took the emotion to the next level. I'm so glad that there's going to be another season as well. Was worried it was over. But if they weren't going to bring another season, the episode ended in a great way. Bravo to the writers & producers for creating an enjoyable series!
Here Today (2021)
Billy Crystal at his best!
This movie covers every emotion. It'll make you cry; it'll make you laugh, and it'll make you mad. The whole cast is fabulous, and their acting really draws you into the story. Tiffany Haddish is wonderful as Emma Page. Such wonderful chemistry between her and Billy Crystal. The singing scene @ the bat mitzvah is fun, & the scene where he breaks into the live show to berate the actor on set is hysterical but will quickly turn you to tears. I love movies that end on a happy note even with such a sad topic.
Just Visiting (2001)
Fun movie for everyone
This is one of my favorite comedies. It is funny and full of adventure. The actors are fabulous, and Jean Reno, as the count, and Malcolm McDowell, as the wizard are excellent. A fun movie to watch with the whole family!
Love, Rosie (2014)
What happens when feelings aren't communicated
Long, drawn out movie about two people who should have expressed their feelings for each other at age 18. Because they don't, we're forced to watch them make multiple mistakes throughout until the clichéd ending of getting together finally in the last five minutes. Seemed more like a hallmark TV movie than anything else. The honest, pink haired best friend of Rosie, the main character, was funny and spoke what those of us who were watching this tragedy thought.
Playing It Cool (2014)
Bland
Topper Grace as Scott was the only heart felt character in this movie. The actress who played Mallory had some depth, but the rest were just thin. Near the end, when talking about who should be on his boat, were good lines, but I think he was just quoting a book. There are much better rom coms... Only watched it because I was sick.
Man Up (2015)
A fun, romantic way to spend 89 minutes!
I love Simon Pegg in romantic romcoms like Run, Fatboy, Run and also comedies like Shaun of the Dead, and he does not disappoint in this along with Lake Bell who adds such personality to the character of Nancy. It's quick paced with lots of laughs and a wonderful ending that will make you hopeful for love.
Uncharted (2022)
Fun, adventure movie
If you're a fan of the actors Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland, you will probably enjoy this movie. Nothing spectacular that we haven't seen before but a fun movie that could be watched by the whole family. I wonder if there will be a sequel? I didn't know this was based on a game until I did the research on the movie.
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
If you like Steve Martin and Martin Short, you should enjoy this series
This show has a nice mix of comedy, drama, family dynamics, and quirky behavior and characters. I enjoy how they grow the characters' emotional states individually and as a group over the first season, and who didn't peg Jan as the killer once she joined the team? A fun watch....
