Going Postal (2010)
Just another biased review
Like it says in the title, I'm writing this review from a biased point of view. I read the book prior to watching the series, because I wanted to know the story before I saw the TV-series.
And that ruined the whole TV-series for me.
The series are interesting in the way that they put a face on the screen to the name of a character from a book. But that's about as far as the similarities go. Some movie adaptations of a book change a few insignificant points in order to make the movie more appealing to the masses, and also because some things don't work out as well in movie form as they do in a book form, which is fair enough. But twisting and skipping the most important plot elements all together is a trap which these TV-series have fallen into, resulting in a plain and uninteresting version of the story.
As previously stated, I think the TV-series will only have a slight appeal to Discworld-fans, simply because the series put a face to the name of characters from the book. To people who do not like, or those who are not familiar to the Discworld books, I can't see any appeal to either of these groups in these TV-series.
Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008)
Kevin Smith knows what he's doing
I'm one of the people who was very put off by the title, I must say. The title, and Seth Rogen (never liked him one bit). But, I gave it a chance, because I really like Mr. Smith's previous films. Kevin Smith's known for his provocative, thoughtful, and last, but CERTAINLY not least, clever work. And he delivers, like he never has before. To pull this off, you have to be 110% sure of what you're doing. Kevin Smith is.
This is not a row of adult themed jokes (okay, it is, but it's not just that), this is so clever, so sharp, so well thought out, you can't allow yourself to pass up on this movie. If you give this movie a chance, you'll most probably find what I found; a masterpiece that couldn't have been conceived by anyone else but Kevin Smith. Hats off to you, agen.. Mr. Smith!
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)
A bit too edible, but a good dating movie
Dating movie? Yes, me and my fiancée ended up seeing this movie on a date night. And it actually worked as a date movie! There were several songs in it that you could hum along to, and quite a few romantic and funny moments.
But when I say too edible, I mean TOO EDIBLE. I watched the first one when it came out, and then once more before we went to see the new one. I quite liked the first movie, and was really looking forward to see if they had used and expanded the potential that was put in the first movie. BUT NOOO. They had made a "let's attract as wide an audience as possible"-movie. The main characters were less interesting than in the first one, there were a lot of unnecessary pop songs in the movie (kind of like in Spider-Man), and WAY too much of Toro's monsters in there. The movie had a very interesting view on elves, though. As in, they weren't just tall humans with pointy ears like in LOTR.
So, to sum it all up: if you're going with the expectation of seeing a movie with the same qualities as the first movie, only better, you'll be DISAPPOINTED. But if you're going to the movie with a date, you've picked one that both you and your girl (or vice versa) will like.
Knocked Up (2007)
This movie made me feel really uncomfortable
Clearly, some guys sat around, probably high as this movie has so much drugs in it, making jokes, that would become the dialog in this movie. Personally, I have nothing against pot or alcohol or boobs or pictures of babies being born in movies, I just have a LOT against guys who're not taking their responsibilities. And to top it all of are all about boob and bush jokes.
I started watching this movie, because other reviewers used the word "romantic" about it. It was indeed a little romantic when the guy proposed, but it totally didn't make up for the rest of the vulgarity. I just couldn't watch this whole movie through.
Save yourself the time. Avoid this movie.
Muppet Treasure Island (1996)
The best pirate movie there ever was
This is simply my favorite Muppet movie. The adaption of this classic story written Robert Louis Stevenson into a Muppet world is, in my opinion, one of the best adaption ever made in the history of Muppet movies.
The movie is quite family friendly, but I can say, as an adult, that I enjoyed it immensely. The humor is never dull, and the numerous musical numbers in this movie makes it a pearl in the world of the Muppets.
I'd just like to point out Tim Curry's role in this movie. Casting him as Long John Silver just adds to the already sky-high quality. With Tim Curry you get both good acting AND good singing.
If you like pirate themed movies, and are not afraid to please your inner child, this movie is most definitely for you!
