The Book of Eli (2010)
Important Message
I was discouraged to view the film as I did not find reviews very compelling and wasn't sure it would provide the insight or inspiration I look for in a film.
I wish I gave it closer attention.
This film holds deep messages and insights that can encourage people. I don't want to write any spoilers because even mentioning the type of people encouraged may give too much away.
This film is worth watching for the underlying meanings that will encourage those able to see.
Prisoner (1979)
Being a Woman
What makes this program special. It may have some stereotypical characters as mentioned in the main critique however the program goes deeper. Could there be a more dehumanising environment than a prison for both inmates and officers. Regardless, these people are still human. I find a recurring theme in this program; a longing for life that once was in contrast to the cold new life where all involved can be controlled and manipulated. Some cannot handle it, they are too human, have too many regrets, Some are too misunderstood by others and become hardened and cold. But even the coldest sometimes return to what is most important to them. Their longing to be loved again, accepted their humanity restored. These moments in the series are what make it special to me. Even some of the coldest officers have shown they need more, they need to be a woman and the alternative may be cold heartened efficiency but there is a price given to a deeper longing. Some of the finest and moving performances in this series have this theme at the core.
Awake (2007)
This Can Happen
I have not seen this film. I am deciding if I will. It is shocking that this happens in surgery in real life. I have spoken to more than one that have experienced being conscious during major surgery yet paralyzed. I don't understand why their body would not indicate heightened adrenal activity. An increase in pulse, something, surely some sign. People that go through this have it happen for real and can experience extreme Post traumatic stress. It must be beyond terrifying for them. Then, the Australian convicts experienced being cut open while conscious and having their insides explored for medical research. The so-called elite medical industry has something to answer for as to the ethics of the origins of its practice. Not surprised it is comprising the subject matter for a horror film.
Wentworth (2013)
Disgusted
I watched one episode as so much reference had been taken from the original series "Prisoner". Character names, the name of the Prison. The original Drama is exceptional and I was curious to see what a series using so much of its subject may have. If a series remake is completely different to the original and bears absolutely no quality of any kind, in character, plot, atmosphere. This is utter repulsive trash and to place the names and references to one of the most outstanding Australian Film Drama series is a disgrace. It amounts to lack of imagination to have a series that stands alone. This series should not reference the original Drama "Prisoner" whatsoever, as it is repulsive viewing and cannot be compared to a quality classic, nor should it place reference to it.
