Gypsy (2017)
Definitely a must watch - ignore the poor reviews
I'm so glad I did not listen to the poor reviews about Gypsy. I thoroughly enjoyed each episode and truly hope there is a Season 2! This psychological thriller was quite intriguing and Naomi Watts and Billy Crudup had fantastic chemistry. In fact, all of the characters were very well played.
The basis of this story is very relevant in my opinion given most people never truly deal with the skeletons in their closet and just continue to go through life hoping they will go away without actually facing them and taking the time to come to terms with them. We see the consequences of these things actually come to life in many instances.
My only criticism is that there was way too many sexual scenes. I know the director of this series is the "Fifty shades" director but it was just too much for my taste. At times, it could appear that one was watching a raunchy homosexual porno (I never have but could unfortunately imagine). Personally, I wasn't digging it.
Overall, this was a very strong performance and film and I truly hope there is a Season 2.
Sunlight Jr. (2013)
Depressing reality but good chemistry between Matt Dillon and Naomi Watts
Given the mixed reviews, I opted to watch this film to determine if it was worth it for myself. In short, it was a decent film (not outstanding but not tough to get through) however, it was slow moving. The complexity was lacking but then again, this was intentional to show the true nature of the life of poverty being portrayed. The chemistry between Naomi and Matt was pretty good and the story completely believable. You can't helped but be depressed the entire movie given there is really nothing positive that happens. If you are looking for a stimulating and dynamic movie to watch, do not opt for this one as you will become frustrated. This is a movie for someone interested in observing the reality of poverty of a young couple and the struggles they go through. Take it for what it is!
