Outlander (2014)
As a lover of the Outlander books this proved disappointing
There is some good casting in this but I can't overlook how completely unlikable the actress is who plays Claire. She looks nothing like the description in the book and she's devoid of any warmth.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Netflix Must Be Paying People For All These Stellar Reviews
This was such a mess. Bad writing, acting, and directing. I kept waiting for it to make sense and to be scary. It never happened.
Doctor Who: Vincent and the Doctor (2010)
A Doctor Who Tearjerker
This episode made me weep uncontrollably. I don't care that Tony Curran plays Vincent with his native Scottish accent. He truly embodied the tortured and suffering man that was Vincent Van Gogh. To have two of my favorite things together, Doctor Who and Vincent Van Gogh was just too good to be true but this episode has some very fine acting and some truly touching moments. I really did not want to like Matt Smith given how enamored I was of David Tennant's portrayal of the Doctor, but Matt has won me over. He plays the Doctor like a naughty, but sweet, child and he really is a fine actor. This episode also shines a light on the the fact that Karen Gillan can do something past her goofy, scolding turn as Amy Pond.
Cover Girl (1944)
Silly plot, sub par choreography and lackluster songs
I never thought I would ever say I didn't like a Gene Kelly movie. Cover Girl to me was one giant bore. The choreography was mediocre (with the exception where Kelly dances with himself)and the songs weren't memorable. Watch Singin' In The Rain and tell me you didn't hum it after the movie was over. You can't!
As far as the relationship between Rita Hayworth (while beautiful I don't understand the hoopla surrounding her. She's a passable dancer and a lousy actress) and Gene Kelly, there is absolutely no chemistry.
The only gem in this flick was Kelly's scene where he danced alongside himself. Is it any wonder MGM never loaned him out again? His dancing was magical, athletic and just a joy to watch. If you want to see Kelly at his best, watch Singin' In The Rain or his masterpiece An American In Paris.
Casanova (2005)
Just awful!
The only reason I can find for the plethora of good reviews of this film is that the positive reviewers love soft-core porn and bad dialogue.
Since I'm such a huge fan of David Tennant's from his time on "Doctor Who" I very much looked forward to seeing "Casanova". It turned out to be a complete waste of my time (and not much time because I could only put up with it for the first half an hour).
All of David's appeal, which is in abundance on "Doctor Who", was completely absent. From the terrible wig to the half-hearted sex scenes, his performance was a huge turn off. A sad waste of the great Peter O'Toole as well.
