World War II: From the Frontlines (2023)
a perfect example of taking great documentary content, and turn it to fiction.
This show has redone footage and witnesses of the war from both sides, but with so much potential, netflix was able to destroy the show by making old historical inaccuracies.
Throughout at least 3 episodes, which is where i stopped, the narrator continuously repeated myths from the cold war and he explained events terribly without any details. Important events of the war were skipped, important numbers were dropped. I understand there are complexities to the war and the series is short, but you simply cant talk about the north african campaign by saying "hitler wanted world domination". And of course there were the times when no explanation was given at all. "stalin hasnt been seen for months, and then a meeting was called". Where was stalin ? Why was gone ? If the narrator mentioned it the viewer would believe it must be important. But nothing.
And the editing, my god, almost none of them had a title or date, there was no clear timeline for anything and of course, including incorrect images to the narrative (which was anyway at times fiction).
So much potential gone to waste,
my suggestion, watch for the fine pictures on mute.
Conan the Barbarian (1982)
Who needs dialogue in a movie ?
i usually don't review a movie unless i feel there is something that must be said. and in this movie there is something like that.
do you want deep and long conversations ? yells and roars of battle ? well you came to the wrong place !
in this one they speak short and important, the rest, the viewer must know threw visual and music purely.
the visuals which were not too much but not too little, always was completely synced with the exact music and sounds that led us through the movie. but when needed some 'push', a few sentences came but enough to be considered unnoticeable.
this movie, which is 2 hours long with some weird sorcery and costumed fighting that most of the time make the viewer(me) unconformable and unwatchable, this one actually make us even more deep in the movie's experience, no matter the age.
with this new age of extremely developed CGI technology, there is no need in casting 100 people for a ceremony and action scenes will be much more faster stronger, but they will always miss something that i find very important, sometimes much stronger than the use of CGI, REALITY.
Robin Hood (2010)
What you're watching is.... Robin Something !
the entire movie i said: "ok, lots of wars, done already but when robin hood is coming ?" but he never came. when we saw batman begins we knew its the story of how he became batman. also in the prequels of star wars we knew that we are watching the story of the creation of Darth Vader (among other things).
but in Robin Hood there was no mentioning of it anywhere, at some point i just thought its a story about some guy called robin something.
when they stopped the grain from town after talking with the monk i thought "hey seems like things are coming together" but then we went back again.
i like movies that revive urban legends but now its nothing but a waste of 150 minutes of my life.
my advice: if you want to see constant and not very exciting war action, watch "Robin Hood". if you want to see Robin Hood in action, just go for "Robin Hood: Men in Tights".
American Pie Presents: The Book of Love (2009)
better than the spin offs, but lacks the spirit.
i must say, i had higher expectation. i thought they had good concept and the trailer did show promising movie but i was a bit disappointed. most of the movie they just repeated the same thing, getting laid, instead of focusing on the book. more focus on the book could be much better. i would cut some party time and add the search for book writers. i felt like i was missing something.
the actors gave me the feeling I'm watching high school acting class but in a real movie. none of them were aware of their surroundings, they just said their lines with a little face and thats it.
and stifler... worst stifler ever. i cant believe they chose HIM as stifler. he doesn't even look like a stifler. his acting (if you call it acting) it was like watching a stick talking like a stifler, no emotion whatsoever. he is not that bad, its just that he is not a "stifler" character. hes more like the friend that helps when needed.
what with the constant nudity. this movie was too sexual, almost like soft-core porn. American pie 123 were very good and weren't THAT sexual.
yes this movie felt a lot more American pie than the other spin offs but still didn't come even close to the first and second.
too bad. they had high potential with this one.
5/10.
Fainaru fantajî sebun adobento chirudoren (2005)
Good but disappointing
the CGI is VERY good, done extremely well and gives the right feel when needed although not always. The fights scenes were very exciting, when the group first seen as a whole i was like WOW with my face going forward towards the screen but when the fights are over the lack of excitement is only bearable. Charactersare shallow, the dialog at times is pathetic and the story is weak. when the movie was over i felt like too much is missing, gave me the feeling of a part one out of a mini-series.
I felt no connection at all to the characters and frankly the "possessed" kids could be left out of the final cut. The confusing mixed cut scenes were at times annoying and unnecessary. Some were there just to give the fans a few moments but with no contribution to the story at all.
But i have to say that one of my favorite aspects of the CGI work is that they succeeded to mimic human behavior and depict it on screen in a way i haven't seen in a while. very rare.
The movie felt like it was made by game developers and not film makers.
10/10 for the CGI delight on screen. 7/10 as a whole, if it didn't have that awesome CGI id give it 5.
