Feast of Love (2007)
Explore Your Sensitive Side...
I went to see this movie with the idea that it was a light-hearted comedy...nothing could be further from the truth. It wasn't the best film I have ever seen, but far from the worst. The truth is, it made me stop and think about a few things that I wouldn't have otherwise. One is to really pay attention to the dynamics of your particular relationship and to the person that you share it with. Another is to live each day as if it were your last...life is fleeting, so enjoy it to the fullest while you can. The last thing I took away from this film is that "there is a lid for every pot"...you may not find the right person the first time around, or even the second time around, but if you don't give up on love, some day you might find that one special person that was meant for you.
Most of the above is pretty sappy, and I'm not generally a sappy person, but these are some of the feelings this movie brought out in me. I would not want to see this type of movie on a consistent basis, but once in awhile I find it refreshing to focus on human nature and how we are all fumbling through life with our own problems and ways of dealing with them.
Morgan Freeman and Jane Alexander were superb as the older couple profiled and I truly enjoyed Greg Kinnear as the guy that refused to give up on love. I would recommend this movie to anyone that has a sensitive side they want to explore...otherwise stay away!
Mr. Brooks (2007)
Believable? Not so much...
As someone who watches a lot of "true crime" television, I went to see "Mr. Brooks" with a lot of intrigue. I think my background for watching Forensic Files and Court TV worked against me. While the movie was entertaining, I found it to be unrealistic and unbelievable in many places. Aside from that, there are positive things about it, too.
I found Kevin Costner's character was interesting to watch and seeing his personality unfold makes a person stop and think about how many people in life that you admire are really the people you think they are. To say that Mr. Brooks is a complex man is an understatement! Dane Cook did a great job playing Mr. Brooks' apprentice and William Hurt as the "alter ego," Marshall, was one of the best parts of the film.
The biggest disappointment of the entire movie, for me, was Demi Moore's character. She managed to pull off super human feats without so much as breaking a sweat, and aside from one scene where she had her head stitched up (not one hair was out of place even as they sewed up the gash!), she seemed infallible.
I would recommend seeing Mr. Brooks if you go in with the idea that it is solely a source of entertainment. If you're expecting to see a film that poses real possibilities, and that's important to you, save your money.
My Fair Brady (2005)
Be Careful What you Wish For...
The very stunning Adrienne Curry finally gets her wish...but the old saying "Be careful what you wish for" may end up being the outcome of this whole series. Beautiful women become accustomed to getting their way because of the way they look and I have a feeling that's what happened here. I agree that Chris may have been much less motivated to give her a ring had she been agreeable to living with him indefinitely without a commitment, however, I can't shake the feeling that forcing someone to marry you by way of an ultimatum is probably not the best way to get a husband. In spite of all this, I have a gut feeling that they really do love one another and that this marriage has a possibility of being successful...at least I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them. The premise of the show was rather lame, but it kept me entertained every week, so I'm not complaining. Hopefully, without the cameras present this couple will be able to maintain what appears to be a complex relationship with a challenging future. GOOD LUCK CHRIS AND ADRIENNE!!! If the marriage lasts long enough, you guys should have some GORGEOUS children!
